I don't have a problem with there being some inconsistencies between the Old Republic and Anakin as described by old Ben and the 'reality' we would see in a better version of the PT.
Ben is old and it's very rare that old people don't jazz up their personal view of the good ole' days (I know I do).
Ben is also a unreliable narrator...from a certain point of view.
