Now they're going to freeze someone in carbonite? Good thing they're not out of fresh ideas.

I hope the plan fails... remember, at Cloud City they were unsure if Solo would survive. It'd make for something really dark.

I think they were unsure BECAUSE NO ONE HAD EVER DONE IT BEFORE!

Well, in the creative desert of the EU carbonite freezing is the prefered method of incarcerating a Jedi.

The carbonite is probably another of George's bad ideas. They are going to have to do an amazing job explaining it.

Author

What's left to explain?

Vader's dialogue regarding the carbon freezing:

This facility is crude, but it should be adequate to freeze Skywalker for his journey to the Emperor.

He doesn't seem unfamiliar with the process.

I don't know why some of you don't complain about they using blasters. After all, it's lack of creativity too, isn't it?

If carbonite exists in the Star Wars universe, in what sense does it show lack of imagination? It's not like a villain is frezzing someone in carbonite to see if the facility is okay for his plan to succeed.

Blasters are used throughout the trilogy.  Carbon freezing is used once.

It shows lack of imagination because it's been done before. It's understandable that some things will appear continously in the SW universe (the blasters you mention), but it would be cool if some things don't happen repeatedly, and for example, the only person we ever see getting frozen is Han Solo, it makes it special.

But now someone being frozen is not special is a common occurence, as is the Sith using lighting, or using a flying remote for lightsaber training, etc. It would be better if some things remained unique.

 I agree.

Once, it's a cool sci-fi/fantasy thing.

Twice it's a reference.

Three times it's another cliche.

It doesn't make it a unique event. The dialogue of the scene indicates that. Neither does this episode make it common.

Wow this thread has de-evolved into a TFN apologist piece.

What's a TFN apologist?

TheForce.net apologist.

Someone who excuses everything Lucas does.

I think it's much stronger than that.  An excuse admits that there is some wrong doing.

An apologist champions the thing, not merely, er... apologizes for it.  Regardless of the etymology.

Remember that the semantic range of the English word "apology" is significantly different than that of the Greek work απολογια, whence our English word is derived. Απολογια does not have the sense of "an expression of regret" or "the seeking of forgiveness," but rather "a strong defense." So an apologist is someone who defends a particular school of thought.

Classically, "apologetics" and "polemics" have been closely tied together, with apologetics being the defense of one's particular ideology, and polemics being an attack on contrary ideologies.

Well anyway...yay Chewbacca!  We certainly need him in the Clone Wars, just like we needed him in ROTS.

Luke is shaping up to be something like Bill Murray in The Man Who Knew Too Little.

Apparently everyone knows what's going on but him.

Maybe in the course of TCW, Luke will also go on a zany space adventure and learn all about the Force, the Empire, and Vader being his father. But then, after he returns to Tatooine, Captain Antilles will have his memory wiped so that ANH sill works.
