The clone attack was like what, five minutes of the movie?  And, like you say, they attacked robots....and it was all video game cgi...and...

It's a bad title because it has very little relevance to the movie.  Hell, they could have just called it "Creation of the Clone Army."

Author

Well, yea, the creation of the clone army is kinda an "attack" since it's, uh, preparing the TRAP, and "attack of the clones" sounds catchier and cheesier.

The only problem with it, the title implies that clones attacked the good guys... which it probably should've been in the first place.

What do you mean, "they couldn't have named it anything else"?  This thread is FULL of things that they could have named it.

You heard me, bud.  Once the Clones one came out in '02, pretty much all of fandom knew the next one would be Revenge of the Sith.  You remember those days.

Not everybody... I seriously thought it might have been:

The clone army attack probably took up the same time at the end as the Death Star attack in "Star Wars."

Hell, "Star Wars" could have just been called "Star Small Group of People Traveling."

^^ Hear hear.

Basically, the truth is that the title "Star Wars" is pretty overblown and deceptive, especially if applied to the originals ;)

For a very short period of the duration of the film Clones go on the offensive attempting to capture the separatists who attack for the whole duration of the film, the Empire struck back for most of the duration of that film too.

Attack Of The Separatists sounds less exciting but it is more accurate.

It's a shame that the game The Empire Divided sort of ruined the title The Galaxy Divided because it's at least as snappy as A New Hope and explains what happens in the film (it didn't stop the DVD sales department from using it as a subtitle of a collection of episodes of The Clone Wars series...ish).

Star Wars in the context of the whole saga is not the 'episode' title A New Hope represents Luke who begins his journey to becoming the means by which the galaxy is put back together.

The Jedi return/s in many ways both as the singular Luke, the singular Anakin and the plural of the order as a whole by inference of Yoda's dying request.

There is a Phantom Menace in the form of a ghostly holographic puppet master but the last two titles really don't work.

Well if we're gonna be nitpicky, the Empire only strikes back on Hoth and then leaves the rebel fleet be, but with the main characters fucked up by the Empire towards the end, even if it's technically just Vader, the title feels right regardless.

Vader is pretty much the Empire's poster boy and he is on the offensive for the duration (the only break in terms of the film is on Dagobah but even there his spirit is felt).

I cant hear anything you say once you act that the title of the first movie somehow isn't "Star Wars." After that it's all static.

But in the film AOTC, there's one large battle in the movie, and the clones are the ones attacking.

Episide III: When Senators Attack

There is a film called Star Wars (1977) which has no sequels and a very similar film called Star Wars : Episode IV A New Hope (1981) which has two sequels (one released a year before).

There are slightly less similar films called Star Wars : Episode IV A New Hope : Special Edition (1997) and Star Wars : Episode IV A New Hope : Special Edition (2004) which have two sequels and three prequels.

I've said it before and I will say it until I'm blue in the face- The "Phrantom Menace" doesn't refer to a person (Palpatine), it refers to the Invasion of Naboo.  It's the 'fake threat' or 'phantom menace' that enables the true threat, the Real Menace to take over the Galactic Republic.  It's the only thing that makes any sense.

Even so, it sounds like Scooby Doo.

The invasion is just a thing caused by the "allusive" menace, the phantom is the puppet master pulling the strings.

I disagree.  Phantom is being used as an adjective, not a noun.

Are you suggesting that Phantom and Menace are both nouns?  Or perhaps it's just poor grammar and the title is meant to be "The Phatom [is] Menace[ing]" or "The Phantom Menace[s]".

Theoretically, they could both be nouns with "menace" standing in simple apposition to "phantom." But that construction is very uncommon in English. More likely, "menace" is the noun and "phantom" is the adjective qualitatively modifying the noun.
