Swear, as soon as I read Alex's post, I started to log in. ;-)

Vader being Luke's father was the start of the Incredible Shrinking Universe. It wasn't originally part of Star Wars (my signature). Lucas had writer's block and shoe-horned a plot twist into the film. For me, the Vader-as-Father change was the beginning of the end.
