TRON: LIBERTY *** QUICK UPDATE *** (* unfinished project *) — Page 2

I just read this Amazon review and the guy, who saw it in theaters, talks about a red tint at the arcade, a blue tint in the Laser Room, and a green tint in Dillinger's office. Are you going to add that back? Also, what source are you using for this edit? Are you going to use the original DVD, the 20th anniversary DVD with better picture and audio quality, or a capture of the HD broadcast of Tron (probably the best quality)? Anyway, I'm eager to Tron being upgraded. Oh and recently, rumors have come up of a newly remastered and color corrected version of the movie for release sometime this year. It supposedly is enhanced greatly but not with any CGI.

I've got an MKV of the HD version, and I'm picking up the 20th Anniversary Edition soon.

What I planned on doing was using the audio from the dvd and the video from the MKV but I'm trying to figure out how to rip the video from the MKV and maintain the quality.

Wow an MKV would be a great source! I'm glad to hear that you're using an HD base for the edit.

Might think about waiting to at least hear when the Blu is coming out.  Might help with the video quality?

That's true, but I don't even have a bluray player in my computer... :P

Someone on the forum could probably help you out. I think it is legal as long as you yourself own a copy of the Blu-Ray set. Anyway, using Blu-Ray might be a prudent move. It supposedly has color-correction and some CGI added to improve it's look. That could save you some work.

I was thinking about trying a few test shots, and uploading them so that HOPEFULLY I could catch the eye of somebody out there who can do without a dual layer bluray player/burner for the computer to not only help with this project but my future projects too.

By the way if anyone is interested, I'm shooting a short film this weekend. When it's all finished I can upload it for all to watch.

Hey guys, I decided to mess around with my iPhone during my free time. What do you think? I tried to make Tron look more modern. I know it doesn't necessarily look like the Tron Legacy suits but it makes it look a but updated. Maybe a similar treatment could be used in your edit if you like it, Asteroid Man.

Here's the original:

Here's the first color treatment (probably the least difference).

Here's the second color treatment.

Here's the third color treatment:

Here's the fourth treatment.

Here's the final treatment.

I know all of these photos are rather low quality but I think I can recreate these on my computer in much better quality. Tell me what you think.

I'm actually goaling for the suits to look somewhat like hers:

I had real trouble myself doing a Tron edit late last year.  Ended up calling it a day, but planning to go back to it as soon as the new one is released.  (Fingers crossed the new transfer makes a lot of my 'fixes' redundant.)

I wasn't trying to make it look like Legacy, just to lose some of the grey drabness, and fix a few effects bits and pieces.   Champing at the bit to try again in April.

An brief example of what mine looked like...

(Don't expect anything too drastic.)  :)

That was well done! I'm going to post a side to side comparison of the trailer I posted so people can see the difference in lighting, colour and contrast.

Can't wait to see that, Asteroid-Man! Also, I loved your color correction, Uncanny Antman.

Hey, this sounds great! Did you work out your MKV issues? I figured out how to do that the other day using an AVISYNTH script and VirtualDubMod. Want me to send you that info?

Author

I would really like that info please!

- although I might go the bluray route only issue is that Legacy and the original just released the prices and they are over $40 Canadian a piece... then I need a Blu-Ray drive for my computer... so I don't know what I can do unless I can raise donations through screenings of my own short films, telling the viewers that the money would go towards future film production endeavours.

Here's the comparison video:

I think you can pick up a blu-ray drive for around $55 on amazon US. That's not really a huge endeavor, and it's worth it, you'll definitely use it.

What I would hope, is that the 5.1 surround sound track on the blu-ray is mostly just dialogue and sound effects, and the music doesn't bleed over. If that's the case, you can deleted everything but the center track and completely rescore the movie. Unless it's like the Star Wars DVD's, where the music bleeds to the center channel, then it will be a bitch.

It would likely need to be a brand new mix, as the older DVD had a 5.1 track...but with significant bleed.

Nice comparison there, by the way, Asteroid.  :)

I think it is a new mix,  I read that somewhere.

Any luck with the MKV file? If not, when I get home I can send you the AVISYNTH script.

Any updates on this? The Tron blu-ray comes out shortly which I assume will be very useful for this!

Author

Yeah; I'm excited about the Blu-Ray. However, I thought that I heard that there were going to be slight CGI enhancements/modifications to the original Tron. The recent reviews don't seem to indicate any of this...

My friend saw an advanced copy and he didn't report any changes.

Oh that's good. Asteroid Man or Uncanny Antman, would you consider making Clu "good" blue instead of evil "red"? By changing the hue, it's relatively easily accomplished. He's supposed to be a good character and this has always bugged me...

Clu was yellow, not red. I guess that makes him neutral.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?
