Oh, and here's a new version of the "look sir, droids" clip. I remade the wipe and adjusted the Dewback to fit in better and start moving at the correct time (although that is still not quite perfect but I don't think it will get any better).
Looks good Harmy, impressive stuff. Simple but effective.
I'm not a big fan of the Sandcrawler but whatever. To reiterate what Harmy has said before these are not theatrical reconstructions and he only wants to use HD elements. Hence the use of the new Sandcrawler shot.
Harmy, whats going on with that Dewback in the background? I can't quite remember the SE shot but was that one slightly animated for the SE (as once it was completely stationary) or was that the Dewback you removed that I'm remembering?

Sorry, but what wasn't the whole point supposed to be for the background to be less CG in that shot? Because your mock-up leaves all the obviously CG buildings in and replaces the obviously original ground. I know the SE ground looks kind of too sharp and stuff when compared to the GOUT but I think that's only because it's an HD transfer (but I did blur it a bit for my version) and when you compare them closely, you can see that the SE ground is exactly the same as in the GOUT but the GOUT is just blurred due to the shitty transfer. You can see it in the picture bellow. 1st is the GOUT, 2nd is the SE and 3rd is mine. The only thing I think it needs is a bit more red tint, which I'm gonna add when I do the colour correction.

Thanks, it was a lot less simple than it looks though, I'll get to that later :-)

Well, I'm not using exclusively HD elements but as many as possible without leaving obvious CG in, so I will be using the GOUT (or hopefully DJ's V3) for like some of the Yavin battle.

Oh, yeah, for the SE, the original Dewback in the background was removed and instead two obviously CG ones were added. I tried rontoscoping in the GOUT one but the difference in quality was too big, so I reconstructed the original one in HD using a production photo and I had to track the motion of the camera frame by frame. And also, about two seconds of that shot were cut off at the beginning of it, so I had to deal with that too by several times repeating the few frames before the stormtrooper moves.
I think Harmy's right. The ground just looks like it was artificially sharpened for the SE and the higher resolution also makes it look different. A blur should make it look more like the original. However, the SE CGI buildings seem to be the bigger issue.

Yes Harmy, I only used the SE shot to replace the foreground because that's where you acquired the sharpened material from. I do prefer the 77 style, the SE is far too detailed in every aspect.
When you see the comparisons you posted above, your new plate does look a lot more realistic Harmy, good work

I'll stop going on about it honest,

OK, that does look a bit better. Can you do that in 1280x544, preferably perfectly aligned to mine, so I can just re-render the shot with it? I can post the full rez one if you want.
No problem, thanks Harmy

Here's the full 1280x544 background I made in BMP :-)
Here's a larger attempt Harmy......I can change or adjust it if you want.

I don't know, man, I mean, I quite like it, it does seem a bit more consistent with the background buildings but I think I'll just go with the original one I made and just colour correct it. I like how sharp it is, it gives it more of an HD feel for me. And you may notice that I made the ground gradually blurrier towards the back, so I may just try strengthening that effect a little.
I got them back early, so here's a look at your handywork Harmy. I had to move the Fox Logo and the PDE banner down a little as the covers were printing out a little too tall (although that was most likely a problem on my end; I don't have the best setup or software). Also, forgive my poor photography skills!
Wow, that's great, thanks :-)
Thank YOU. I feel like a freeloader around here, reaping the benefits of your guys' hard work :)
Well, I made these in the 1st place for myself (to have a version I'd like to watch and show to my friends and family) and then I figured why not share it with others as well :-)

You're not wrong :)

It's not a problem Harmy, as I said in post 455, your version is a vast improvement on the GOUT & SE........now how can I get my hands on your edits!
J
So what are the latest versions, and are these versions getting updated again? this is confusing, I was going to ask for a PM with links but it seems every time I turn around there are new versions, sorry if this has been answered before.
Sorry if this is confusing, but let the first post be your guide. These new videos are just tests for the next version, which I didn't even begin making yet.
Hello Harmy,
I haven't come round to actually watch the movies yet, but I burned them to disc and they play just beautifully in my bluray player, so the technically side is top notch, amazing quality. As for editing decisions, I hopefully will soon have time to watch them and will post my impression here. Thanks so much!
So far I have only downloaded ROTJ but it turned out great. Jabba's palace is a lot sleazier with the Lapti Nek scene intact and the Sarlacc was always more terrifying without the beak. Thanks for all your hard work. It's great that I don't have to choose between the highest quality available and the most true to the original version anymore. Great version.
Finally got me some dvds, may I also have links?

I feel like a luddite for not yet having a BD or even DVD/DL burner yet. Can anyone recommend a particular burner for burning disks such as these? I can tell I desperately need to upgrade.

My regular old DVD burner burns em just fine. Just use IMGburn and it should work on a regular DVD burner. I figure it should, because mine is 6 years old and was a lower quality one.
