Let's be honest here: all sequels bring new ideas to the table that alter how you view the original work. The problem with Star Wars is how it's being presented. The creator is, for some inane reason, encouraging people to watch three sequels before the original. That's the main problem here. If you watch the films in their proper order, you will have the original context of the original film, and, only after you've learned that, will you discover new contexts. But if you watch three sequels first, that entirely steamrolls over the original film, and all you have left is this new version of events. Even the back of the currently released boxset tells you right off the bat on the back of the box that Darth Vader is Luke's father. Why? Well, I would say that that's supposed to tie into the idiotic idea that you're supposed to watch those sequels before the original film, but even the prequel trilogy boxset gives the exact same information. So I guess what I'm really trying to say is that George Lucas is just an idiot.
