heh, well, at the very least, ppl with dvd burners should pass the copies along to whoever else wants em.

btw, digitalfreak, are you gonna send out the bonus material too? also, how can you d/l it so fast when I only get 4k a sec?

I will be making copies of whatever people want. I have the supplements disc and if you want that, you send 4 discs instead of 3. Oh and btw...I have the Making of Star Wars and Empire on DVD as well. Mastered from the laserdisc.

Empire is done. Just waiting for Jedi now.

When do you usually get the files to download?

I've been downloading for the last two days.

Just remember that people like me really appreciate what you will be doing, digitalfreak.

I plan on sending you some blank DVDs somewhere down the line.

I don't know if it'll be soon or not, but probably sometime.
Depends on my dad's take on it.

But I think I'll convince him eventually.

this is the set i bought and recieved just today (correction - this is not the exact same set - after emailing the seller the transfers of the actual films seems to be identical BUT THE BONUS DVD is different - i have yet to find a seller on ebay offering this)

i have personally owned 5 different versions of the OT and this one is the keeper for me.

video quality is easily 9.5 out of 10
audio quality (my reciever is displaying DD 2.0 and the covers of the discs themselves proclaim DD THX SURROUND) is BY FAR the best mix i have heard. crisp dialog and deep encompassing surrounds.

if the quality of the films themselves wasn't selling point enough for me the bonus dvd blew me away.

included on it are

every theatrical trailer (revenge of the jedi trailer as well)
production stills gallery.
behind the scenes featurette.
archive featurette
3 deleted scenes (about 15 or so minutes)
3 interviews (about 25 minutes)
and the complte FROM STAR WARS TO JEDI making of the trilogy documentary (approx 60 mins)

the quality of all these suppliments is outstanding.

anyways, just wanted to drop you guys a line to make you aware of yet another version floating around. i picked mine up for $55 (shipping included) and i am MORE than happy with the set.

ps- it's a 4 dvd set, each film on a seperate disc and the (approx 2 hours) suppliments rounding out the 4th dvd

I got these from a seller who went by pghpunk13. I was refured to this seller by one of his customers. His user name is no longer registered. However, I contacted him and he sold me the set.

Can you post a capture of one of the menus?

And are you willing to trade DVDr's?

these are the menus (sorry for such small pictures, i have NO IDEA how to capture DVD screenshots and i had to search through ebay auctions to find an auction that had a screen shot of the menus. the only menu that isn't correct is the 4th BONUS DVD menu. mine has the emporor)

Very cool menus indeed. But I will not pay anyone anything for a bootleg unless it is dual layered (or one movie on two discs) and anamorphic. I don't want to buy this version now and then have to buy it again because there's a better one out there. Hopefully someone will make an uncompressed set with all the extras. But that's way into the future.

Do you know if these DVD's are Anamorphic?

Do you ask me? I don't think that you are, but I have to ask. Anyway my answer is no, I don't know.

Ok. I have a way to tell if it is Anamorphic or not. Could you go into your DVD Player's setup menu and choose 16:9? After that, play the disc. If the image appears tall and skinny (or squished), the disc is Anamorphic. If it doesn't change, it is not Anamorphic. That information is courtesy or this link:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/anamorphic/page2.html

I hope this information will clear up a lot of confusion as to whether a source is Anamorphic Widescreen (16:9) or just Letterbox Widescreen (4:3).

Thanks.

Okay, I still have to ask. Are you asking ME? I don't know if they are anamorphic because I don't have the set. I have a 16:9 TV, and I know what anamorphic is.

they are not anamorphic. but in my opinion that is a SMALL price to pay for the quality of these DVDs. if there comes a time that anamorphic dual layerd dvd-9s of the OT become available, i will purchase them as well (im a completist), but for now this set PROUDLY sits in my home theatre collection. no set (and as i stated earlier i've boughten a few, including an anamorphic version) comes close to this set.

hope this info helps

Cool. I have several sets (1 that I think is excellent) but you have me intrigued. Can you tell me - are yours dual-layered DVD's?

I DON'T have any set of the theatrical version, I just stated what I would prefer to have. I will not buy any bootleg set until the things I stated above are available.

Since the sources (Laserdisc) aren't anamorphic, how the bootlegs based on them be? btw, has anyone considered taking scenes from the SE that weren't altered, but were cleaned up in the restoration, and stiching them together with the pre-SE laserdiscs? would be nice

Ok, got it.

What about most torrent files?

I'm downloading The Phantom Edit right now, and it is saved like most DVDs are if you open the drive.

Which one would I double-click to play that one?

The first part is easy. An encoder will allow you to convert 4:3 to 16:9 while retaining it's aspect ratio. I did this by cropping the black bars off and replacing them with my own which are true black and look better than the black bars of the source. Since I did that, I had to recreate the alien subtitles. When I recreated the subtitles, I stuck them in the image instead of the bottom black bar since they were in the image in the theater.

I wouldn't even attempt to do any stitching. It would be too noticeable every time it switched from SE to Original because there is a huge difference in quality between those two sources. The only way you could do it without noticing it would be to have some very expensive equipment and color correct each frame so that it matches the colors of the SE versions. Too much trouble.

I actually made a "very special" special edition cut using letterboxed laserdisc sources of the original and SE of Star Wars for a friend a few years ago. Used the SE for everything except Greedo shooting first and cut out Jabba. Looked pretty good. She couldn't tell where the edits were made. Wish I had kept it for myself as my editing VHS recorder has since died.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN GETTING THE FREE COPIES OF THE 3 STAR WARS MOVIES (PLUS SUPPLEMENTS): READ THIS!

I'm done downloading all the discs and I will now open them up for B&P (blanks and postage). If you are interested, shoot me an email at Digitalfreaknyc@aol.com. I will send out a mass email detailing how we will accomplish this and how I will get you all your copies.

I also have The Making of SW/Empire mastered from laserdisc. It hasn't been cleaned up but is a good enough copy if you're interested in that as well.

Again, I'm doing this because it's pointless to charge people for this and I don't believe real fans would. I just ask that you give me time as I'm sure there are going to be a good number of people interested.

Thx...
