I'm still kicking myself that I missed my chance of getting hold of more than one derwent flame tube when BIA went bust and auctioned all it's engine parts.

I was a working as a security guard during the auction and constantly distracted even though I was off duty during the auction because I hadn't had a chance to change out of my uniform and people kept asking me questions.

All I got was a broken hat stand and a filing cabinet :-(

The smile was a nod to the original Emperor who smiles at the exact same point.

I've given up on this video. No matter what i do there will be complaints. First the face is too static and that the original emperors face is more emotive, then i add the smile at the same point as the original Emperors smile and some motion to the face, then the face needs to remain more emotionless.

So that's it. No more videos. I'm spending so much time going back over videos i have posted trying to please everyone that i'm wasting time that could be spend on other scenes. When i get to the point that i'm pleased with a shot, i should stop there. I'm never going to please everyone and things just then get bogged down.

I'm pretty sure that some people thing i can perform impossible things. You have to remember that i can only work with what i have available with  existing footage, etc. The only way i could do the emperor any better now would be to pay Ian to reprise his role in this scene and get him to wear a prosthetic that matches his ROTJ one. But we all know that this is never going to happen.

And AMEN Ady.

As the artist on this project, you are never going to please everyone, and sometimes no one at all.  I've had to learn that myself.

Design by committee is the easiest way to insanity.  Best to avoid such a thing altogether.

It is best to do as you see fit, and as you please.  You have already given most of us every confidence that your vision and meticulous attention to detail in making this trilogy what it should have been in the SE, is in the best hands possible; a true fan with talent to accomplish his vision.

Seek counsel only among those who you trust in opinion.  Let the rest of us wait patiently for the final result, which given ANH-R and what we've seen thusfar with ESB-R is beyond our own wildest imaginations of excellence.

I find your lack of faith…disturbing

Yep INVAR, this whole edit is like a wish fulfilled. Yes, there will still be little imperfections, but that's the humanity in it. That's what art has. It's not meant to scrub all inconsistencies. It's meant to entertain first and foremost....and this last Emperor hologram video did just that....as well as looking better than ever.

So I will let others navel gaze into oblivion. I just look forward to hearing updates and stills and finally, completion.

Ady, your efforts were not totally in vane.  The new version is subtly but much better in my opinion and I noticed and greatly appreciated the differences.  I know others will never be happy, but I am at least.  :)  Thanks!

Well I, for one, think that nothing else needs to be done with Ady's version of the shot on YouTube.  Its great the way it is.  Palpatine now looks like he does in ROTJ and that's good enough for me.

Great work Ady, no need to spend more time than necessary on this topic, on to the next!

Man...Ady....all I can do is say Thank You for your dedication and hard work. I do not post here much because this crowd can really nit pick at others art. I know that is the point of the fan edits...but in this thread...you are the artist and everyone else should just sit back and enjoy the scenery.

Again...don't get bogged down with what others want because in the end we will all enjoy your creation. The day we are paying you for your hard work...maybe the outside opinions could mean something....until then....your vision and your vision alone will keep us coming back.

I can understand, and frankly I can be patient enough to just wait until it is finished the way you want it.  It would have been nice to see it this summer, but I would rather you take the time to make it right and release it 4 to 6 months later than have something that you wouldn't be happy with.

...which (or at least I would like to think) is the motivation(s) behind a lot of these posts.  Most of us understand that you are doing all the work, and it is easy for us to "make a suggestion" when the suggestion only takes a bit of time writing a forum response, whereas you have to dig through After Effects and all of that stuff.

Regardless, don't feel you have to please everyone... just take all of the comments with a grain of salt, ponder the idea if it is something you would like (since that IS the point of these threads, which is to receive feedback and possibly ideas you may not have thought of) and either work on the ideas or not.  Even so, don't EVER feel that we ever had the power to pressure you to do anything.  This is YOUR EDIT and we're just along for the ride.  I know we can be like the kids in the back of the bus and get unruly, but you're the one driving it and so far I think it's safe to say that we like where you're going.

Yeah Ady, were just merely creative consultants here. I don't think anyone here would demand that you change something just because they themselves don't like it. I pretty much like all the changes you have done so far. I really don't have anything to complain about. The work is top notch.

Personally, I'll miss seeing new video clips Ady, but, sadly, I think you're right in your decision not to share them anymore.  Constructive criticism is good, but hyper-critiquing and deconstructing a video frame-by-frame can only lead to frustration for you.  I'd like to think most of the criticism people make comes from a genuine desire to help you make the best edit you can, but I think it quickly crosses the fine line into whining.  And as someone mentioned earlier, a lot of comments come without thinking of what can actually be done on your part.

For what it's worth, I, like many others, think the Emperor clip looks fantastic.  Trust in your own judgement Adywan -- it's steered you in the right direction thus far :)

New Emperor comparison clip:

You will see it has had a few tweaks since the last video. But this is the final version. I will not be doing any more work on it.

OMG!!! That was truly amazing!! I have always hated the SE version of the Emperor scene. I liked how Lucasfilm put Ian in as the Emperor, but I always hated the Darth Sidious robe and especially the extra lines about "Anakin Skywalker."

Adywan, you have truly made the definitive version of that scene!!

I was just talking to someone last night about ANH:R and realized that I hadn't checked on TESB:R in a while. Can't wait to see the final project!!

Watch the YouTube clip now. I had only watched the older downloadable version before. With the side-by-side comparison, I take back my critique. The transparency is fine in ESBR

I watched the emperorclip and was truly amazed. It's so awesome to hear the old dialogue again, that I thought I could try something.

See, I grew up with the german versions of the original films, but the man who dubbed Vader died in 2001 and so it wasn't possible to get Vader's new lines dubbed with the original voice. So another actor did Vader's lines for the whole 2004 scene, which is very irritating, since the voice is cool (Reiner Schöne did it, some of you might know him from TV: Star Trek TNG or Babylon 5) but totally different from the original german voice. So I did reassamble the original dialogue with the new Palps and the old Vader. Here is the version I did:

The lipsync is a bit off, because the german actor used lipmovements that adywan kindly erased ;)

@ adywan: I did not set the video to public, but if you give your okay I would like to do so. I wrote in the video's title and descripton that the video is your work, only the sound is mine.

I ran it the mkv hologram scene by a non Star Wars geek's eyes and the verdict was yours was a massive improvement.

I'm sure that most people will assume that's the way it was meant to be and not even notice your hard work which in a way is the best compliment but when shown side by side the improvement is obvious.

I'd just like to say as a someone who views these things with a low level of expertise and scrutiny - but a high level of interest - the first clip of the emperor scene worked great for me. I had no clue what had happened, what had been changed, etc. Didn't notice a THING!

I've watched the mkv version now. It shore is purdy! :D It's too bad that LFL insisted on having the Emperor look like he did in the prequels, forgetting that there was this ROTJ movie which was far, FAR closer in the timeline to ESB than ROTS.

That's exactly the way I feel. And I'm sure that's exactly the way Ady wants people to feel.

Yeah when I watched it it felt perfect but I wasn't quite sure why(except for the obvious Turkey neck Palpatine gone). But when I watched it as a side by side comparison it was "aha, so that's why."

About the bridge explosion, it is leaps and bounds better than what it was before Adywan, but don't you think an asteriod of that size would cause a bigger explosion than that? The clip cuts too abruptly to really see the full impact of the asteroid. I think the cut works the way it is, but would you be interested in enhancing the explosion even more and would it be possible for you to extend this clip a bit longer so we can see more destruction of the asteroid impact?

Personally I think the explosion is fine.

When Ady said he was fixing that shot I expected something more showy and was pleasantly surprised.

Once again it looks like it always should have looked like that and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Storywise the bridge section is protected by an energy shield (as ROTJ proves) so that would slow the impact down and reduce the energy of the explosion.

It could just be my eyes but it seems to me that Ady factored that in because the asteroid seems to explode before hitting the bridge pod (which would mean it only got struck by the fragments that penetrated the shield).

I noticed that too about the explosion coming a fraction to early, but forgot about the shields, now it makes sense :)
