I was thinking about the fact that you're most likely on your wife's lappy before I read that.

Let's keep the discussion clean, plz. ;-)

I would also consider when making the explosion to have the explosion burst towards the rear of the video picture, as the SD is moving forward (ie when a plane explodes in midair, the fireball extends across the sky as the plane [or what's left of it] continues moving forward).

Isn't that more because of a movement's relation to gravity, which space doesn't have?

Physics still exists in space (for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction).  You still have to take into account that the Star Destroyer (while weightless in space) still has mass, which would be knocked to the side from such a tremendous physical impact.

Think of it like bumper cars, if the cars were as big as football stadiums.

______________

Overall it IS an improvement, but I don't want to make superficial points.  The SD explosion via asteroid I can go either way... maybe some more tweaking such as having the Star Destroyer react more to the impact would help, or just making the explosion more opaque on the left so it doesn't look AS overlayed.

And I also understand the situation regarding the Emperor hologram.. there is only so much one person can do, much less on a regular home PC.  I'd just rather it be more subtle, as the flickering takes me out of the scene (and Bingo: they're out of the asteroid field so there wouldn't be any interference).

The blinks I would like to see, as it would be a nice nod to the original scene, much less take care of the "lifeless" upper part of the face that others have an issue with.  I think that if the eyelid area of the original Emperor holo was kept and overlayed, nothing would have to be done with the eyebrows or forehead.

Here are some comparison links:

Adywans latest clip

Original version with Clive Revill (with Ian McDairmond's voice)

2004 version (this has the slow fade as opposed to the "scooby doo" wave)

One last thing regarding the holo-kneel pad when Vader is talking to the 3 SD captains:

I can see why it isn't in the picture (at the 0:28 mark), as at 0:30 you can see that the kneel pad is BEHIND the 3.... I mean 2 holograms of the captains (which means it would be off-screen to the bottom left in the shot at 0:28).

______________________

Okay, I'm warming up to it... ESPECIALLY after just watching the 2004 clip (jeez, the color correction alone destroys the 2004 version).  I can see the slow blink when the Emperor says "yes....YES" if it was to be added anywhere.  Maybe make the hologram intro and pulsing slightly subtler, and maybe show the SD start to slide towards the bottom left and away from us (to show mass displacement from the impact), but overall I can dig it...

Your version looks SO MUCH BETTER.

Absolutely, but am I right in thinking the 'interference' lines seem more prominent now compared to your previous version adywan, or is it just a Youtube thing?  The 'interference' effect seem to be subtler in the previous clip, but it may just be me.

I've no idea how anyone could be less than delighted with what they saw yesterday, to begin with, considering the final soundtrack wasn't in place yet.  It was awesome work.

You will see it has had a few tweaks since the last video. But this is the final version. I will not be doing any more work on it.

Looks awesome, although I noticed that you shifted his gaze and now the Emperor looks slightly crosseyed. Or is that just me?

I haven't touched the "interference" effect. It's exactly the same as the previous video

it's just you. the emperor is looking directly ahead and slightly down so his gaze would be fixed on Vader

For all the complaining about the lack of blinks, I found it kind of funny how the 2004 one didn't blink either.

Please stop nit-picking! He just said there would be no more changes to that scene. It looks flipping awesome compared to the DVD release. or are u pushing for a 2012 release?

Ah, thanks for clarifying.  There seems to be a slight difference between this and yesterdays Youtube upload, where that's concerned.  Either that, or it was just me.  It's just that you said there were some tweaks since yesterday's version.

Really neat to have a moving side-by-side comparison with the SE version now. :)

It's been rendered at a much lower bitrate than yesterdays one to keep the file size down for uploading so that could well have caused the interference to look different

Just saw the Emperor comparison video on Facebook - amazing!!

I think it looks terrific. I'm not at all bothered by replacing the line Luke Skywalker with Young Skywalker, it's a total non issue for me. I can't wait to see the whole thing.

Yoooo, this scene is a wrap, AdY you knocked it out of the park man. The differences are especially noticeable in the comparison vid. Even the subtle dialogue tweaking which initially I wasn't sure about works beautifully.

The color corrections most of all are outstanding. The movie looks like it was shot yesterday, and this is just youtube clips compressed to death.

We should all be grateful, we finally have ROTJ Palpatine in friggin' ESB! This is something that has been on our nerd wish-lists forever. I can almost guarantee the blu-ray's in September will likely just be the same 04 Palpatine version untouched. I'll be shocked if ILM makes the effort AdY has to improve the hologram for consistency.

Thanks for the vid AdY!

I can't even remember what the original was!?  I prefer Young Skywalker... it's sort of a threat at Vader that way IMO

The delays caused by Adywan's vigilant quest for perfection may pay off.

When the blu-rays come out people in the know will be keen as mustard to compare the latest official offering to what has been done here.

I wouldn't be surprised if many more people try to see this one than they did last time.

Hi Ady.

Love the new Palpatine. I think he needs a little more detail in the eyes, bring out some of that Sith yellow we see in the 2004 version.

It'll make him look more evil and creepy ;-)

Wow, that new clip was just perfect. I love the new smile during the line "Yes... He would be a great asset". Just perfect! He actually shows some emotion, yet the unblinking eyes are just so creepy! I love it! A huge improvement over the other.
