Does anyone have access to this or do they exist anywhere?

I have the LD’s but would love to watch them on DVD.

Any ideas?

Yeah, it's called the GOUT (George's Original Unaltered Trilogy). It was originally released in 2006, and you can now buy them in a boxed set (as ChainsawAsh linked to), or you can still buy the original single releases (I saw them at Target the other day for $13 each- they have gold borders on the cover art).

If you're looking for all the DC extras, however, you won't find them on any commercially-released DVD, only on fan preservations.

Well the bonus features are not on there though.  And No PCM.

Plus the picture is sharper so garbage mattes are worse, and the artifacts in the 1993 telecine are quite apparent.

I see.  So who has a version that is as close to the Original Movies that I saw in 1977, with the best quality?

I am talking the Original, no Special Editions of any kind.  I don't even like Star Wars with C3PO's explanation of the tractor beam deactivation.  I love the almost silent computer files sorting in front of the characters.  Very nice.

I don't mind grain but I do want anamorphic.

Any advice?

Didn't I answer you in a PM not to long ago?

What you want does not exist anywhere. Sorry.

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

The irony being the mix considered "definitive" by Lucas in 1977 *did* have the tractor beam line.

You are of course speaking of the original dolby stereo 35mm mix only on the first issue VHS rental tape and the CAV pan and scan analog audio only not digital release Laserdisc from 1985.

As far as i am aware.  I do believe Dark jedi captured the audio and is including it in his gout restoration of star wars, known today as Episode IV.  But i just call it star wars.

Yeah, sounds like you want to wait for Dark_Jedi's GOUT V3, which was made from the discs in the Amazon link I posted earlier.  It'll have all the audio mixes, so you can decide which one you want to listen to (the 1977 mono and 1985 stereo are the only two with Threepio's tractor beam line, IIRC).

If you want the DC just transferred to DVD then pretty much any video transfer from before 2006 will give you what you want. TR47 and Cowclops were the most common titles of the DC transfers, but Editdroid and Mothr were the best transfers. These tend to be hard to find now, because the 2006 official DVD linked from Amazon more or less has better picture quality so there's not much point in them existing. The 2006 DVD is not the Laserdisc itself but the master that was used for the Laserdisc, so it's basically the exact same thing. None of these are anamorphic because the 1993 DC wasn't anamorphic. So if you just want to watch the DC but not have to pull your Laserdisc player out, just buy the official discs. They don't have the interviews that were on the DC though; most of the earlier fan transfers didn't either, but there is a bonus disc out there that someone made with the interviews collected on it, but it's probably hard to find. Frankly, the bonus material was equally parts weak and short so you aren't really missing much, just pull out your Laserdisc if you want to watch them.

Of course, there are fan-created versions that improve on the DE by giving anamorphic conversion, slightly enhanced picture quality, and more audio options to the official DVDs from 2006. The most commonly found one is called "Dark Jedi" or sometimes DJ; v3.0 of this version of the trilogy will be out soon and is especially noteable for having many audio options. V2.0 can be found places, though it has less audio options and not nearly as good picture.

Out of curiosity and I apologize for getting a bit off-topic but has there ever been a preservation/transfer of that first issue VHS rental tape: both video and audio? I can't seem to find a thread about a transfer of it.

Dr_Gonzo's fourth disc (Supplemental Materials) has nearly all that stuff from DC preserved.
And another 4th disc by Farsight @myspleen.
Those two might not be so hard to find . . . from a certain point of view

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I had it on disc from the Starkiller, but it had long ago become a rotten disc.  I am currently going through my collection and assessing the damage.  I will probably have to track down at least hafl of the star wars stuff i have sine they are all rotters.

If Darth MallWallker says its on the newsgroups then if you are partial to them go and fetch it.

The CAV pan and scan laserdisc transfer by dark jedi i own is also a rotten disc, but the audio is on there in ac3.  Also on the newsgroups if your retention go back about three years, or something, lol.

The GOUT version of SW has the original '77 scroll formatting, and omits "a new hope". The GOUT trilogy is not anamorphic but the dark_jedi trilogy is. The Lucasfilm Pwnage edition of SW is also is anamorphic and also uses the GOUT as a source, but they didn't do ESB and ROTJ.

Adywan did a 30th anniversary edition of ESB that uses the SE and the GOUT as sources. I haven't seen it yet but I understand he used the GOUT to replace many of the SE additions.
