The one thing that makes the troopers looks really fake is when they have their helmets off. Placing a real head on a CG body just didn't work and the ones where they are fully CG their faces looks so fake.  Why the hell didn't they just build a few costumes for these shots?

I'm hopefully going down the real-trooper route when i get to the PT. Also they won't be clones of Jango. Jango will have been hired to recruit the best mercenaries from all over the galaxy for the cloning process so there would be a variety of clones and you can have different voices, which would tie that into the OT where the stormtroopers don't all sound the same

cool. i'm guessing you'll recreate the Clone armor as seen in the prequels when you go with live troopers? so that they will mesh with all the CG troops.

i've always disliked the Clone helmet designs which were basically a hybrid of the Mandalorian & Stormtrooper helmets. one a little more Mandalorian the other a little more Stormtrooperish. seemed like a strange unnecessary connection considering that there is no resemblance between Boba Fett's helmet and Stormtrooper helmets.

The evolution from one to the other was a nice touch in my opinion.

Seeing as the whole Mandalorian thing is never mentioned in any of the films Bojangle Fett could have just got his kit from Kamino (personalised free sample prototypes).

The EU business shouldn't get in the way of making a compelling series of films which tie into the OT.

The evolution of the clone armour didn't make much sense to me, not because of the Fett angle, but because it seemed pointless for the clones to change helmet design in the span of a couple of years. I would have gone with the RotS clone trooper design from the outset, then when we get to the OT roughly 20 years later we can see that there's been a design change but it's still pretty similar.

The armour we see in AOTC wasn't field tested so it makes sense to me that they would heavily modify it after experiencing actual conflict wearing it.

We are led to believe that the Rebellion is a relatively new thing in ANH and there hasn't been much in the way of big battles to account for major alterations between ROTS and ANH.

The Empire seems to be pushing more R&D into the navy first the Imperial Fleet and then the Death Star (which is why the Death Star in ROTS as it currently stands makes no sense at all).

ILM's Ben Snow, who supervised that portion of the film(Geonosis), asked Lucas again and again if he could build just one practical suit so they could use it for at least lighting reference on-set during filming.

But Lucas would have none of it.

Your decision to use practical suits is already more interesting than the blanket CG approach Lucas took in that particular situation.

And they never quite tracked the heads effectively to the suits as you mentioned. A prime example of vfx working against the success of the film.

That shouldn't stop you from starting a new thread about it.  Go on, I dare you.

Speaking of sounds, I've recently bought 'The Sounds of Star Wars' book. The one with the (surprisingly good) attached sound module. I'm at this very moment ripping all 256 sounds off it via the audio jack. Now obviously I don't know where to mention this as it's not just relevant to the prequels - there are sounds from all 6 films and some from The Clone Wars too, but would anyone be interested in me making it a download? There are sounds in here I've never found anywhere else.

Would it be worth making a dedicated sound effects thread where I could assemble an archive of the sounds I've gathered and other people could add to it?

I say go for it, man! Cause that's the sort of thing that may (and probably will) come in handy for every fan editor.

Drop a mock up of Geonosis following Angel's line...

http://img543.imageshack.us/f/clonetrooperpilot1.jpg/

I tried (with a zero rate of success) to make the pilot's suit and helmet look PVC-shiny just as stormtroopers in the OT (IMO PT troopers look fake in part because they're dull). What I achieved, if noticeable, made it look even less realistic...

"Wipe them out, of of them" is one of the few good lines in TPM but it seems a bit too good to be used in the context of the Gungans Vs The Droids.

What about shifting it to killing the Jedi in ROTS instead?

Well bingo, I always found it weird that Palpatine knows the names of his commanders, or that he calls Cody in particular... but "Commander(s), the time has come...wipe them out" would fit that moment of the Emperor's character.

That's bloody brilliant! Stolen! ;)

Love that idea, Bingo. Also Mithrandir, you're spot on that palps wouldn't address a soldier (let alone a clone) by name.

You could even use the "commander" from ROTJ from the line "fire at will, commander". The inflection of it makes it sound like a question when it's isolated from the rest of the sentence.

e.g.

"Commander?"
"Yes, my lord"
"The time has come. Wipe them out. All of them."

By the way, you should probably drop by Bob's thread and post this idea. He might be interested, cause it's a pretty cool idea.

A great idea. nice mockup but whoever attempts this will have to prepared to have the sequence picked over at the sub-atomic level.

It has been suggested that Palpatine's real face is the ugly one, and that he reveals himself to the Jedi when they come to his arrest. So what if we try to make it look like Palpatine and Sidious are not the same person by always having the ugly face when talking to the Federation: http://i443.photobucket.com/albums/qq159/Ethan2Reed/palpgunray.jpg

Dude! That's, like, one of the greatest ideas ever, man! Seriously!

Bingo, uuh, I think Sidious' cloak looks a little wrinkly laying on his shoulder. Could you smooth that out a bit? :p
