It's a terrific image and the cover has intensity. I like it.

I apologize for a response that may have come across as either snarky or whiny.

You also made a good choice of artwork. One of the earliest images, before anyone realized that a movie (and following juggernaut) were on their way.

Your comment about translucency reminded me of Marvel's comic book covers. The images were obviously designed to have all the important elements in the bottom two-thirds of the cover so that the title could obscure the rest.

But those few special times when the logo became an outline only were a joy. Suddenly there was so much more to see. I'm thinking specifically of a Walt Simonson cover, but my collection is miles away as I type this so all I'm sure of is that he was the artist. But the idea obviously had an impact.

[Edit: issues 55, "Plif", and 60, "Shira's Story". Suddenly the images and the threat became so much more real.]

That would be a great option, like Jambe and LexX did so that we can see more of the art. It's a very dynamic cover!

I'm tending to agree.  And I got ya, MattM.  I didn't see it as snarky. :p

I have wanted to use that art for a frickin' long time.  This seemed like the perfect project.  The thing I like the best about it is that it echos Jambe's 'ring of fire' in the other logo.  I sent him another cover yesterday without the chaykin art, in case anyone found it too busy.

Would a translucent solid logo be better or an outline version?

Sluggo, I suggest transparent with a thick red outline.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Boba Feta,

I emailed you the credits yesterday. Which I am going to change for the final version to more directly reflect you work on the deleted scenes clean up.

The source list is on page one of this thread. It is by no means definitive.

Did anyone manage to grab the video that was associated with this story? - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/7083045.stm

This stream: mms://s42wm.castup.net/server12/12284100-61.wmv ?

*EDIT*

dang it stream link must be set up per session. You are talking about the one where it's old video of people waiting in line for the SW rerelease?  started with an interview with Fisher.

*EDIT2*

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SBOT2I90 this version is a tiny .rm and the file date of 1977 might be incorrect.

None, I've never seen that one before. That's John Stappleton interviewing. Thanks!

No, I was talking about the video associated with that article. It was broadcast on BBC London news. Adywan has just contacted me, informing me that he still has it.

I decided long ago, when I had it on my sky+, not to include it in Star Wars Begins. But I just wanted to review it.

Thanks

None, whenever I try to convert that .rm to another format it goes out of sync. Shame, it's a great little piece and one I would love to upload to youtube (with your permission of course).

And why is it that as soon as I finish my doco-thingies some 'new' stuff is presented to me?

Seriously.  I had made my mother a small family history booklet for Christmas when last week, a cousin finally gets back to me with new information.  Typical.

Here's that other cover I made for this.

I'll see if i've got the conversion I did for the 'Star Wars THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE Is Forever ...One Last Time' project. (don't worry no one else watched it...) I did it in pieces. Audio Hijack for the audio and SnapzPro for the video. It was originally posted to usenet or the SWAficionado site, and it's still streaming from the BBC, in pieces .rm or .wmv. actually from that article you mentioned, it's was on the right.

As for the 'new' stuff, there's so much out there. Who knows what everyone else knows. Which is why the forum at one point had the Project to Collect all Documentaries. Which expanded to what if we collected everything, thee imaginary :F:L:I:M:S:I:P:L:A:S:T: :D:A:T:A:B:A:S:E:. If I could figure out how to make an online database, we could all compare libraries. and we'd all be belching unicorns and rainbows.

*EDIT*

anyone got a good scan of the handwritten GL script cover sheet in the Making of SW, might make for a good cover image. add in a handwritten 'SW Begins by JD' on the next consequtive lines.

What is that explosion/eclipse thing anyway?

It was supposed to be a nod to Chaykin's 1976 promotional poster. It's an effect from Apple Motion which you can see in the opening of Star Wars Begins.

Same reason as why only a few weeks after I bought a 40 piece set of screwdrivers, the 75 piece set went on sale for the same price...
