oh I agree,  the only thing important to the teams playing today is getting to the Superbowl.   But the new trophy is still butt ugly.   Why do people always feel the need change things,  the need to fix what isn't broken?   Did the NFL actually receive complains about the old trophy?

I'm just glad I didn't take my friend up on his offer to watch the game at his place, which is in the South Loop not too far from Soldier Field.  Getting back home would have taken forever.

So it will be the Packers vs. the Steelers in the Superbowl.

predictions anyone?

Well, I hate the packers by default, and my roommate is from Pittsburgh.  So I'm gonna have to go with the Steelers on this one.

This, but replace roomate with "friend from college".

As an outsider on the subject I think both trophies are equally ugly bits of den decoration.

The earlier one reminds me of :

sorry Frink.   It must have been tough to watch the Packers win the George Hallas trophy on Soldier Field.   But at least you have 1985, and your quarter back isn't a dog murderer.

I turned to CBS before they were actually given the trophy ;-)

I got curious as to what the trophy was that was awarded to NFL champion before they merged with the AFL and had the Superbowl.   The first NFL championship trophy was called the Brunswick-Balke Collender Cup, it was awarded to the 1920 Akron Pros.   It was lost and no knows what happened to it.    It seems they next created a trophy in 1934 called the Ed Thorp Memorial Trophy.   It was handed from champion to champion, much like the Stanley Cup,  until 1969.  In 1969 it was given to the Minnesota Vikings(they were NFL champions that year, but lost the Superbowl).

Here is a picture of a replica of the Ed Thorp Memorial Trophy:

That was the last year before the merger.   The Vikings apparently lost the trophy.  Minnesotatians, WHERE IS THE ED THORP MEMORIAL TROPHY!?

btw,  I was unable to find out what the the AFL championship trophy was called but here is a picture of the two that the Buffalo Bills won:

I think it would be neat if the NFL awarded these trophies to the NFC and AFC champions.

Those trophys look so much better than the new "arty" design.

How can you trust Vikings not to steal?

nope.

how can you call it a Pro Bowl when the top Pros aren't playing because they are playing next week?  This is why they should have left it where it was, AFTER the Superbowl.  Then, ALL OF THE PROS could play in it.

I'm ok with the new date.  After the Super Bowl, the season should be over.  I don't care a bit about football after the Super Bowl.

Many of the players in the Super Bowl would just skip the Pro Bowl anyway.

I always prefered the game after the Superbowl also.

well, I heard on the radio this morning that the Eagles are probably going to put the franchise tag on the dog murderer and trade Kevin Kolb.    I hope he gets to be the starting QB on another team and comes back here and kicks the Eagles' asses.   He was shamefully treated by Andy Reid.  Reid promised him the starting job ever since they traded McNabb.  Then he only gives the guy 1 half football.   A  half which Reid sent the dog murderer in on every other play, a half in which the offensive line stunk the field up and gave Kolb no time to do anything.    Kolb got a concussion and two weeks later after Kolb received no more playing time(granted he did play couple of games later on but that was only because the dog murderer got injured), Reid makes the dog murderer the starting QB(1 day after telling reported that Kolb would continue to be the starter).

Oh, now we have even more evidence of what a complete piece of shit Andy Reid is.  As you may or may not know,  our kicker  David Akers missed two field goal kicks in the playoff game against the Packers.   It turns out that Akers had a perfectly good excused to be distracted. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/shutdown_corner/post/Eagles-kicker-Akers-had-more-on-his-mind-than-fo?urn=nfl-314339

Reid knew this and still threw Akers under the bus in the press conference after the game.  Reid said in the press conference regarding his missed field goals: "We can all count. Those points would have helped,"

I won't do it, of course,  but I want so much to give the fat jerk an ass kicking.

REID MUST GO.

I think Reid screwed Kolb in the ass over the QB position at the Eagles but reading your link about Akers domestic problems makes Reid a complete bast**d.
