Question for those that can read the subs, any translations which are of note. Something mistranslated or where they've changed the meaning? Any ideas for the meaning/origin of Tugg?
I love how the "maniac" is calmly walking down the street with his head in full bandages, and carrying a huge knife poised to stab! I laugh every time I see that.

My parents went together to see Stjärnornas Krig in theatre way back in '77 here in Sweden! :) Very cool project, looking forward to watch it in the future!

Puggo thanks for the Swedish version.
Does anyone have that poster in high res, the one with han solo and chewbacca that looks suspiciously like a cover from one of the Brian Daley trilogy of books.
The Swedish poster.
Looking forward to puggo strikes back.
Wish i had the money for Jedi in 16mm.
The last print in LPP mylar printed in the nineties was sold on the 8mm forum.

Very nice! Thank you Puggo, for taking the time to create this project :)

Thanks for doing this Puggo. I always enjoy your "making of" extras. I was wondering why you hadn't moved the frame up.
You know of the rebellion against the Empire?
Same here. Makes perfect sense though-and it looks more grindhouse!

I LOL'ed at the maniac. Like a bad slasher flick from the eighties John Carpenter style, only funnier.
Would be pretty cool to find out who actually made these and interview them.

One of the three shorts (the detective one) actually includes placards that say "starring" and "co-starring" and two of the kids' names. I am still debating including them on a future edition, as I'm not really sure if distributing videos of kids with their names is even legal (although they aren't kids anymore). It's also obvious that there are at least three kids involved, judging by the faces in this and the other films (and that someone has to be behind the camera). And honestly, I'm not entirely sure that the "MD Productions" goes with these films, or with the Easter picnic that was also on the reel :) But it made it look more complete.
I'm glad you liked the maniac. The more times I see it, the more funny I think it is, and in some sense the more impressed I am by it. The camera angles are really rather good. Who knows, maybe it'll go viral and they'll become famous movie producers.
So, quick contest - what's the music I timed for it?

Sounds very much like a John Williams score, a score I've not heard that much... hmm, could it be one of the Indy sequels? maybe I'm not even close, it's very fitting though. :)
Again, thanks for a beautifully well done preservation, Puggo!

I love Holst's The Planets, a big favourite of mine.
Great work on this particluar project though man!
Well, all of your preservation work is wonderful, so it's certainly no surprise.
Cheers!

Ah, The Planets, so that's what it was. I'm ashamed that I still don't own a single recording of it.

There are a few translations which are of note, some mistranslations and funny lines, I can try to point them out sometime when I have the time. Maybe someone else will do it before me, there seems to be a few swedish guys around here.
The name "Tugg" is so horribly bad that it's actually good. As already explained in the post, Leo linked to, the word "chew" is = "tugga" in Swedish, so the genius who did the translation, opted to name Chewie -Tugg. Chewing= Tugg. :)

So it's like the French version that called him Chiquetabac (Chewtobacco) ?

I've finally updated the Puggo website, adding a page for the Stjarnornas Krig and with some 16mm frame grabs both for the Grande and the Krig. See my .sig for the link.

Sorry, I forgot to give you an answer.
No, it's not clever like the French name. His Swedish full-name was "Tuggbak". What is "bak" supposed to be then? Well, the Swedish word bak is the word for rear, back, backside, behind, baking and batch. So it looks like the Swedish translator were just going by an English-Swedish wordbook when translating this film, at least it looks like it in many situations. He probably heard his name as -back instead of -bacca, so he used the Swedish word for back which is bak.
"Chewass" could have been something. :)
Anyway, this '77 Swedish translation have since been updated, nowadays he is Chewbacca in Sweden as well. But the old translation of this film is not completely garbage, IMO it's better sometimes than the new one. But to simply have the old translation preserved, is really cool to a Swedish guy like me. So thank you for that, Puggo!

myscamore, the correct titling for TESB in Swedish is "Det Imperiet Slår Tillbaka", literally The Empire Strikes Back.
