Stjärnornas Krig - Swedish 16mm print (Released) — Page 4

Ok, before I send out these disks, I suppose I should do what I have done for my previous two efforts, and post my current want-list for trades.  Not that I require a trade to send out a disk... actually I'm happy to send out my first wave of Swedish disks whether or not anyone has anything to trade.  But trading is the only way I've been able to enjoy some of the great stuff here, since I don't do torrents.  Anyhow, here's what I'd really like to see, the ones I most desire listed first:

  • Adywan's theatrical ESB
  • Harmy's despecialized OT
  • Deleted Magic
  • Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: The Infodroid Edit
  • G-Force vs. 2 (is it out yet?)
  • Star Wars - Attack of the Federation

PM sent awhile back with something not on your list; however, I should still have Adywan's theatrical ESB on my hard drive if no one's already called dibs on trading that.

You can get these three off of fanedit.info quite easily using jdownloader.  And you can also get Harmy's Despecialized OT using jdownloader as well (PM him for links).

  • Deleted Magic 1 and/or 2
  • G-Force vs. 3 (is it out yet?)
  • Star Wars - Attack of the Federation

Awesome! I have company in the house currently, but I'll send out my end of the deal when they're gone. Can't wait to see it!

edit: received the disc today! I'll send out yours tomorrow, I hope.

I just received the disc and luckily was able to look over it. The picture is surprisingly good for something which was not a full on project and better than I expected. There weren't nearly as much dust or artifacts as I expected. Of course, the Puggo Grande is still better. As for the audio, it's the same as the Puggo Grande, isn't it? It seemed the same. I also saw the Maniac...jeez... Do you have any idea who made it? It's really odd; I can't imagine why it was labeled Star Wars. Being a slasher movie fan also, it looks like they tried to make a little fan film. Well, I guess the era of the OT was also the era of the rise of the slasher movie genre. Finally, I did see your making of documentary and enjoyed it. It's always nice to get a little explanation behind the technical work of the DVD. All in all, the Stjarnornas Krig disc is a fun addition to the growing number of Star Wars preservations, and the subtitles are not distracting.

Thanks for the kind feedback.

"The Maniac" was one of three films on an super8 reel made by a group of middle school kids in about 1980. The other two films are a detective story, and a robot story. They were unedited with numerous takes of each scene... I assembled all three of them as best I could, and added music. I also chose the title... I considered calling it "Phsyco Maniac" based on the misspelling in the fake newspaper headline.

Of the three, "The Maniac" was the best, and I think a pretty good effort for a group of kids having fun. Some of the camera angles were pretty imaginative, not to mention brave(?) filming in a construction site. The robot film is less solid, but with a hilarious special effect of the robot getting it's leg cut off in a duel. The robot suit looks suspiciously like a storm trooper outfit. The detective one was the most ambitious, but incomplete and incoherent. However, it had the single best effect that they managed -- a detached hand crawling up the outside of a window. I may or may not include those other two films as future extras. As far as why they were in a tin labelled Star Wars, I would just assume that was by mistake.

Oh, they also filmed footage of them making the films... so a "making of" could actually be done of their films(!)

The soundtrack for Krig is identical to the Grande, except that the Grande had a couple of patches inserted to account for brief missing segments.

Puggo - I got the disc as well today. Thanks a ton! I scanned through some of the disc and it hope to watch it all over the weekend. The Maniac was both odd and hilarious.

Now that I have your address I am burning off a copy of Adywan's ESB Theatrical for you.

Oh, dear, I thought that's what I was sending you Puggo... is there anything else I can offer if that's been taken?

Well, I don't mind getting a backup.  But now that you mention it, do you have the PaulisDead Vintage Edit?

I have it, but I shrunk it to fit single-layer and it lacks the isolated score.

bkev and Puggo: Sorry if I misread somewhere above. I'll still send it out. I don't have much else to offer. And I agree, a backup is always good.

Hehehehe, when watching pay attention to the subtitles as Luke and 3po go out searching for R2.  (~27:30)

Great job again, Puggo!

Don't want to spoil it, let's give people (YOU) some time to watch your dvd!  (plus it's completely juvenile)

The original quote is "Hit the accelerator!"

It's gotta be a gag... <checking google translation> Wow it's not, it's a real translation.  Tried 'hit the accelerator' and google translator gives something else, but if you take the actual swedish subtitle, the translator gives back a similar word to the concept.  Someone was looking for some Backstroke-ian subtitle hijinks and this is a fantastic start.  Now I need to start watching again, since I was reading off and on originally.

Odd but the Vader line "As you wish" is not subtitled.

Can also turn this thread into a guess the swedish sub.

*EDIT*

another off-color sub at 15:50 of Reel 2.  I personally am stunned to learn what supernovas were up to.  but so far two for two with exclamation points!

*EDIT 2*

Woah they renamed Chewie! : Reel 2 ~28:55  (3 for 3 with !)

*EDIT 3*

Also weird they don't subtitle, when all the Rebel pilots are checking in.

...hehehe same jöke as original find at Reel 3 ~23:35 quote is "Accelerate to Attack Speed"

Reel 1 : 27:30 - It looks like our R2… hit the accelerator!

Reel 2 : 15:50 - Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star or bounce too close to a supernova and that’d end your trip real quick, wouldn’t it?

Reel 2 : 28:55 - You said it Chewie!

Reel 3 : 23:35 - Accelerate to attack speed!

Those screen-caps made me happy and very nostalgic, the quality doesn't look bad at all, I expected it to look worse. :)

Tugg! ;)

Yes! I did finally get the disc today, thank you very much, Puggo! Even the disc label was nice. Haven't had the time to watch it all yet, just the making of which was nice and informative, and the menu, which was really cool, it felt like a love letter to a swedish SW-fan as myself, nice touch with the map and poster. :) It's all professionally made and crude at the same time, just as I like it. Well done!!

I must echo what you already said... it's really amazing that they released the print with that glitch in the first reel? Anyway, it all looks much better than I thought it would, and I'm happy that you took the time preserving it, even though it was in worse shape than Grande. Thanks! Now I will go study the crude original '77 swedish translation. :)

Thanks for the disc, Puggo!  Have to agree with the above responses.  While not as presentable as Puggo GRANDE, it still had it's own dog-eared charm.  Looked on par with the Super-8 Puggo Edition with some crushed whites and blacks but overall perfectly watchable.  I only noticed one "fart" subtitle and it wasn't either of the above frame examples.  I admit to cracking up as well! Strange that the subs would take a break for a couple of lines sometimes.   (something I wish contemporary subtitlers would take a cue from, too much extraneous text in domestic releases of many foreign films)

The Maniac was cute.  Reminded me of some of my own grade-school super-8 efforts!

I was kinda surprised at the on-screen special-thanks credit, but I appreciate that Puggo!  I didn't really contribute much so it'll be considered a TIA for the inevitable Puggo STRIKES BACK! ;-)

IIRC, that was common practice in Swedish subtitling back in the day, not sure how it is nowadays, DVD subs translate almost every word. I have many old home video titles subtitled in the same way as this, where only the essential things is translated, either they were lazy or I guess they assumed most people understood what was said anyway.

Same here.

The Maniac was a nice little bonus. :) John Carpenter's masterpiece, Halloween was probably in their minds, I guess... or was Maniac done '77? (Edit: seems it was made in 1980.) Anyway, it's a classic and easy theme to use when making your own films when you're a small kid.
