I started reading LOTR on the plane last time I went interstate. But the book was in a bag with some water which leaked and the book was ruined. So I only read the first chapter...

That does stink, hopefully you have or can buy one of the cheaper paperbacks at the different bookstores right now.

I have to admit that the LOTR movies were actually better than the books. The Hobbit IS being made, and after King Kong is done, Peter Jackson will return to direct it. The book the Hobbot seems more geared towards children (rather like the Star Wars prequels), and there is already a website for the film.

The sequel trilogy for Star Wars would be kind of odd, since it would end the series at 9. I think they should either make 4 movies to make an even 10, or just 1 to bring some closure to the events after ROTJ. I think if they are made well, they could be successful films. Just think of all the sequels that were better than the original:
Aliens
The Empire Strikes Back
The Two Towers
Gremlins 2
The Wrath of Kahn

If they make them, they will suck. Just look at Ep 1 and 2. George Lucas shouldn't be allowed to touch Star Wars ever again, cuz he'll just screw it up. Plus, what would be the point? They'll either just being movie representations of the EU that someone else came with (in which case, they could be cool), or something completely differant which would definitly suck cuz it's all from GL.

And Groundrunner, sure, there have been a FEW sequels that were improvements on the original film but most sequels are worse. Not to mention this isn't a sequel. It's a 7th, 8th and 9th installment in a series. Name a series where the 7th, 8th, and 9th were better than the first 3. (First released, not first story-wise). If they did make a sequal trilogy it would be like digging up a dead horse 25 years after it was respectfully buried with dignity, dressing it up to look like some cheap whore to sell some crappy merchandise and make it's original owner some more money and THEN beating it with a stick.

GL really reminds me of one of those really really sick people who can't let go of the death of a loved one or something, so they steal the body and have it stuffed. A little like Norman Bates..."he was never completely Norman, but often completely Mrs. Bates..."

I guess I could agree with those... But I can think of ALOT more sequels that were much, mcuh worse than the originals!!
Austin Powers
Highlander
Sister Act
Three Men and a Baby
Look whos talking
Batman...

I could go on forever... true some of these movies weren't very good to begin with, but the sequels were utterly apalling...

If they made a sequel trilogy, it would be done for the sake of it, not because anyone had a great idea. Most films where they decide to make a sequel, and then try to think of ideas, rather than the other way round, tend to be pretty awful...

I've never seen Highlander, but he is supposed to be immortal, right? What if we cut him to bits and pieces? How can you survive that?

Just for the record, there are rumors that The Hobbit may be pushed back as Peter Jackson has expressed interest in taking over the helm on The Lovely Bones which is a novel by Alice Sebold about a little girl who is raped and murdered and narrates her lifestory from heaven while observing how her family copes with life after her death and the investigation of her murder. That project was already in pre production when the slated director bowed out and Jackson said he is interested after Kong. No final deal yet.

I was just pointing out that these films COULD have some potential. They could even film all three back-to-back, LOTR style. And, good or bad, these movies would make enough money to solve world hunger.

I love all the Alien films (except resurrection) and I think the first two are each well made in their own way. Alien had more of a creepy, horror feel when Aliens had lots of balls-to-the-wall action. I guess it's what I'm in the mood for.

ps. Alien 3 is better than the first 2 combined!

Actually Highlander had two sequels. The second one was set in the future where the main guy (Chris whateverhisnemis) invents a machine to replace the ozone layer. Sounds pretty stoopid already right? And Sean Connery, who was killed in the first movie, comes back to life to help him. Then there was a third that I haven't seen, which I imagine was probably even worse, and even a TV series, which was appalling. Ricarliette, the people were immortal, except you could kill them by chopping off their heads. Sort of worked in the first one, but after a while the premise wears thin since it doesn't really make any sense...

you cant chop them to pieces...

actually there are 3 sequels... highlander 2, 3 and Highlander 4 - Endgame (in which Connor MacLeod dies)

they suck, all of them, i dont rexcognize them as being part of the Highlander series.

Highlander began and ended with Highlander. Conner kicked butt, killed all the immortals, won the prize, period. Anything after it was for money and just the stupidity of doing it.

And for that one movie to me, Highlander, it was a good action flick with some heart and alot of thought. Plus I've always loved those Queen songs.

But, it must be the director's cut. Only way to watch that movie because it tells so much more about the movie.

There is a director's cut of highlander? What's the difference between this and the original?

Oh man, go get the tenth anniversary release of the film. This cover...
Highlander 10th Anniversary Edition

Something like 20 minutes spliced back in to the flow of the film. The most important piece of info that it adds to the film is how Rachel came to be with Connor back in WWII. This was how I was introduced to Highlander and I went back and watched the original video release and it pales in comparison to this version. It leaves so much unexplained.

What a stupid thing to say, "George Lucas shouldn't be allowed to touch Star Wars again".......He is Star Wars man...

Without him there wouldn't even be a Star Wars...
