your impressions before the PT films about yoda and palpatine

Did anyone in their mind   believe that yoda and the emperor  knew each other when they were young or were old enemies who had fought in the past  as younger sith/jedi?

I always believed yoda and the emperor were  close to the same age  and   were old foes.   As  it  turns out the emperor is not an old man at all he is just force lightening fried to look old.

Other impressions  I  always  had was that Luke was taken to dagobah   when he was a kid  before going to uncle owen.  I  remember reading in starlog that kurtz  said  luke  was taken there  immediately after him and lukes mom and leia  were split up.  This is why luke says   the comment "there is something   familiar about this place"  Also  that dagobah  was  the home planet   of the sith.  The  scene where  luke cuts off vaders head is  inside what most call a cave  and even some books  call it a cave but it is really a temple. when luke looks inside the room  where he sees vader you can  see the outline  of a concrete door.  it is not a cave or tree. This is why it is strong with the dark side of the force. Also this is why yoda chose that planet to hide on.  No one would think to look for a jedi oin the home world of the sith.

Shame.  I just did my PT Emperor impression in the other thread.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"[George Lucas] rebooted the franchise in 1997 without telling anyone." -skyjedi2005

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

I figured Yoda had been on Dagobah way longer than the Empire had existed. I used to figure he had lots of little Jedi there getting training all the time,. and therefore I never thought he and Empy had any relationship.

I thought that Palpatine was a self-taught darkside sorceror instead of a Sith Lord.

Never really had any impressions about Yoda other than that if he were to have had a lightsaber, it would have been a purple one.

My thoughts too. Never imagined "Sith" meant 'anti-Jedi.'

Vader was Lord of the Sith, which meant something wicked, I don't know.

Palpy was just evil, and did evil hoodoo. He forsaw the future and could zap lightning, which I thought meant he clearly was NOT anything like the Jedi.

Yeah I've always wondered why the den of evil had a bulkhead in it.

You make very good points.

It would of been good if Yoda and Ben took Luke to Dagobah before Ben left with him for Tattoine. Yoda could perform some Jedi mark on him to hide him from Vader and the Emperor while he was growing up.

Dagobah could of been a once beautiful planet turned to the way it was when we saw it through the Sith leaching life from the planet to make themselves powerful.

My impression of Yoda was a old Jedi who didn't need a lightsaber because he had completely mastered the force. The Emperor was hiding away like Yoda getting Vader to do all the work. The Emperor didn't need a lightsaber either due to his power.

A year and 1/2 ago, I made this for the Prequel Radical Redux thread....and it kind of explains Luke's familiarity with Dagobah, etc..

I agree  that I never thought palpatine was a lightsaber user.  Mostly in part to his comment to luke  "a jedis weapon, much like your fathers"

I had this idea that Palpatine had attempted to train as a Jedi when he was really young but had been rejected because they picked up something strange about him (true story).

He moved into politics but the rejection niggled at him and he developed his dark side skills in secret (no Sith but a self taught unguided Force user fueled by this feeling of being thought not good enough).

He used these skills to manipulate himself into a position of power and get revenge on the people who rejected him.

A sociopathic life long grudge (the opposite of Anakin's creepy infatuation for Padme in the PT).

I imagined that Obi-Wan was already a Jedi and Anakin was already around Luke's ANH age.

He lived with his brother and had a wife on Tatooine but worked as a navigator on a spice freighter and happened across Obi-Wan by chance and was captivated by the stories of life as a knight.

Yoda was never seen but was talked about and Palpatine only openly talked about his use of the Force to Anakin, later Vader.

In a way my idea of Palpatine's story was much like Lucas' of Anakin.

He could have this constant simmering resentment and could use it rise to power and pull the good man Anakin to his side and trap him there.

In my opinion Yoda and the emperor do know about each other and that's also mentioned in the novelization of ROTJ.

Also I never liked Yoda when I was a kid but after they made him even worse for the prequels which I'm now trying to forget forever, I've grown to like him more.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Prequel films ? There are only 3 star wars movies just like only 3 Indiana Jones movies.  Never heard of these pathetically bad films but they must exist in a parallel reality called bizarro world where the director went pants shitting crazy.

You really must see them. They are revolutionary films.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

when watching  ROTJ you also  get the  impression  yoda knows the emperor. Yoda tells luke to not underestimate the powers of the emperor or suffer  his fathers fate he would.  That tells you that they knew or know of one another.

Well, I happen to read the RotJ novel, and therefore I knew they were familiar with each other.
