Thanks for the PM!

Ha ha, thanks, Frink for posting that comic, I'm using it for my Avatar now. I came up with the username in a hurry last night, trying to think of something Star Wars-y and "funny". Not too much of a stretch, so I'm not surprised someone else thought of it first. Luckily it wasn't taken, or else I would have been Wookie Monster.

Unfortunately, I'm neither Scott Johnson or Mark Turpin, but glad some of you got a laugh regardless.

Thanks again!

Harmy, this project is wonderful. When I get off my lazy butt and get some DVDs I will get these.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

First of all, thanks and second of all, is that a request for the links or do you already have them? Sorry but I honestly can't remember everyone I sent links to :-)

@ Sluggo: PM sent

So is this basically an non Lucasized version of the special edition ?

Yeah, pretty much, there's still some SE stuff left, like two or three digital animals in SW and some of the windows in cloud city and some other minor details, but most of the SE is gone. All 3 are colour corrected. For each film, the whole cut was conformed to be in sync with the soundmixes of the original versions.

Here are videos showing the changes in SW and TESB, what isn't in the videos is kept the same as SE:

and here's what's changed in Jedi:

Lapti Nek, the original Sarlacc pit scene and the ending celebration (including the Anakin ghost) were restored very close to the original version.

Some videos can be found in the first post.

It's a "When I get DVDs I will request PM" statement =O

These versions are amazing Harmy. They are now the main version I use to watch the original trilogy. Could I get the like for the new copy of Jedi?

Thank you.

Hey Harmy et al. I got the trilogy a while ago now and I just wanna reiterate that they're absolutely fantastic and clearly the product of a lot of care. I do wanna note, though... it's weird that I seem to be the only one who's noticed this, but the audio sync on ESB seems to drift slightly over the course of the movie, so that it starts out in sync but by the end (or rather, by the last on-screen spoken line I can use to judge—Lando's promise to Leia to get Han back, technically about 7-10 minutes from the end) it lags the picture by about 175 ms. I figure changing the tempo by about 0.002% to make the whole track 175 ms shorter should bring it close enough. I'm trying to do this, but trying to import the ac3 into Audacity or convert it to 6-channel WAV on the Mac is giving me a huge headache. I'll let you know if I have any success, but in the meantime does anyone else have the capability to do this?

Oh, that's possible, I didn't notice that (I usually don't notice sound stuff like this). But it is possible, that the frame count deviates slightly from Adywan's Empire reconstruction (I used his audio mix) so maybe you could try muxing in hairy_hen's 5.1 mix instead and see if that fixes the problem, other than that, it is possible that there are a few frames missing somewhere in the SE that I missed, so the only way to fix it might be to actually edit the sound.

Did you try hairy_hen's mix then? I'd do it myself but I honestly can't tell that there's a delay at all, so I wouldn't be able to tell if it's fixed or not...

Guys, I have a question, I'm going to watch my ROTJ PDE on an HD projector but as I have to use my laptop, I only have a stereo jack (or whatever is the connector usually used for headphones called) output for audio and I have 2.1 speakers connected to it. Am I better off using the 448Kbps 5.1 or the 384 Kbps 2.0 sound? In other words, when the output is stereo only will the LFE channel have any effect?

And I'd like to pose the same question about stereo headphones or 2.0 speakers.

Thanks Harmy, downloading hairy_hen's mix now, I'll try it. It is possible that with your mix the problem happens at an edit point somewhere, but since it seems to drift at a pretty consistent rate from start to finish, I think an overall correction should fix it for the most part.

And one more question: I'm not saying I don't believe you but how for the love of God did you determine the delay to be 175 ms? That's seems just impossible to me.
