If its completely faded to pink like most prints and not a technicolor print whats the value if not zero ?

Well, it's not pink - it's more like dirty yellow. But, your point is taken. I guess it's just that after you spent good money on it, you want it to be worth something. But, it's value is probably 0.

Still, maybe someone will want it bad enough to trade something.... I don't know.

What about the audio on the print is it still intact ?

Would that not have value to a preservation effort.

Well, it's been a long while since I've watched it, but if I remember right, the sound was good.  But I no longer have a projector - would have to find another.

If I could figure out how to capture the audio correctly so that you have the best possible audio from it, it would be worth a shot.

I went searching on Google for info about 16mm audio. It led me back to this site where a thread said this:

===============

Heard back from Belbucus regarding the mono soundtrack:

While it might yield a useful reference, 16mm soundtracks have a fairly limited frequency response – around 150 to 5000 Hz with a dynamic range of about 40 dB.  A 35mm Academy mono optical track is more like 45 to 8000 Hz with a dynamic range of around 48 dB.

From wikipedia, the linear track on a VHS tape has a frequency response of 100 to 10000Hz, so was probably a better source for the audio - certainly in terms of high-frequency content.

So, I'm wondering if it would be just a waste of effort when you can get the soundtrack off of the PAL or the Jap/HK laserdisc.

Hello again. I've never received a download link or anything for getting this. Is there something I need to do in order to get this?

Thanks.

While it is true that video has a wider frequency response, I think that a film's optical audio is worth grabbing.  I've come to really like working with optical film audio a lot.  In my experience, optical audio doesn't degrade over time in the same way as magnetic audio. In fact, it barely degrades at all.  Prints that are heavily scratched, pink, even vinegary, generally have audio tracks that sound largely the same as they did when they were new.  And they don't develop hiss, wow/flutter, and other stuff that need to be filtered out of magnetic audio.  Optical soundtracks are extremely easy to work with in post production, since they are generally well saturated and don't require much "work" to get to sound good. Removing hiss from old video can lead to metallic artifacts, or just needing to leave the hiss in which can make for distracting listening.  Severe warpage can cause trouble in film, of course, but that's true in video too. Capturing optical sound also tends to result in hum, but in my experience hum is very easy to remove, whereas hiss is much harder to remove. In other words, both forms of media have their strengths.

If someone here has Mentor's remaster of Song Of The South, I'd surely appreciate some help. I had gotten the film from a member here a couple years back and my family and I enjoyed it so very much. I have since somehow managed to lose the DVD. I'd love the opportunity to see it again.

I still have never seen this in any format. Hope to see it someday.

My apologies. My web browser on my "dinosaur" phone gave me an error message so I wasn't certain it went through...so I retyped it & I guess it had gone through the 1st time.

I got this film from joeyo here about 2 or 3 years ago but I've since lost it & the links have expired :( I sent a PM his way but it would seem he hasn't been online in a while. Its really such a shame Disney doesn't suck it up & reissue this on DVD/Bluray. The fans are dying for it. Any body still have this?

You know, I've been waiting quite awhile for some way to download this and have never gotten any kind of response.

Well you might find it for sale in Cherbette's iOffer store someday...
...but first Cherbette would have to find another source.
I won't be seeding the rest of that torrent.

And for the record, while everybody seemingly knows so much...I was interested in the movie for my PERSONAL enjoyment as I said several times. I'm the last one to hock someone else's material. The material I offer on ioffer is MINE....I spent tons of money on my turntable setup, I spent tons of money on the vinyl and I spent tons of money capturing and restoring the audio/artwork. Mine mine mine! Not to mention, the Cher fans have petitioned for years for those albums to be on CD with no success so excuse me for doing them a favor and offering them a beautiful audiophile product that they'll never find anywhere else. Now...I'm gonna get off of my soapbox. I don't understand where my ioffer store came into play with any of this but if people wanna run their mouths then I'll be happy to set them straight :)

LOL...I would imagine so. What's that they say..."different strokes for different folks"...?

*bump* is any one willing to help me? I've had to re-register here having forgotten my old login info (and the email addy I signed up with no longer exists).  This is for personal use only. There was some stink here last time I asked for help because I was blindly accused of being a re-seller. I do, in fact, have an ioffer store however, the items being offered are my OWN transfers and restorations of vinyl albums....never any one else's work!!

I'd also like to get a copy of either the Mentor and/or the JoeyO copy of Song of the South. I have a copy of the original PAL tape, and tried to make a copy from that, but it didn't come out as clean as it should have.

Thanks in advance!
