I loved everything you have done. Not focusing so much on the elevator wasn't an issue because the amount of times they get into trouble aboard the ship it didn't require it. The fact it zoomed past just as they got to safety was all it needed.

Getting rid fo the buzz droids was awesome.

You guys make me wish your all worked at Lucasfilm and made it yourselves.

Well done.

This is a Wip idea im working on.

The idea about have the shot holds a bit longer by cutting the animation and keep the cannon still. Or turning it with subtle ways.

Taking reference fron ANH the gun might not recoil. I will add some boxes and cables at the right bottom of the screen with interactive laser lightning ofc :)

I went to a more industrial look for the sake of originality.

The CG camera movements/traveling will be out as much as possible. think that in ANH the camera stays still even when the gunners are being hit. Still i dont know much about how this can be achieved here with all the explosions but the guns might remain static as possible.

Same goes with the droid cannons

For the easter egg purposes i took the monitors from 2001 space odyssey

Nice Ep1 recut! Well done, Bob!

Angel: What is the problem to the recoil? In the New Hope, turblasers are recoiled, when fired, so I don't see the point of this. But it looks cool with the more deatailed gun. I always imagined, that the small guns are, same as the Anti Air weapons for aircrafts.

I mean this: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Turbolaser  - this is anti ship lasers, with low accuracy on fighters, why enables the trench run to the rebels.

The interior guns in death star are not recoil ;)

Only the surface ones.

And my main point is not the recoil but the camera movement i want to avoid ;)

If you are going for a pure beam weapon as apposed to a recoiling projectile cannon it would make sense to loose the divisions in the windows and create a larger gallery which the gunners can use to pick more targets without shooting their own ship hulls to bits through.

Those gun ports are only shaped that way to evoke a maritime cannon port where aiming is not necessary.

If it was a fixed beam weapon you wouldn't need the window at all it would just fire at any unfriendly target that crossed it's path.

The recoiling cannons is a feature I liked in that sequence because Star Wars is a compendium of cinematic tropes and that fits in with that aspect of the Star Wars universe but if removing that is your aim then you have to rethink the architecture of the space that the weapon sits in.

It may be fantasy but things still have follow an in universe logic.

Trust me. If i could these shots would be out of the edit. But keep cutting the edit will be 30 minutes at the end :P

I still can take your point to the death star guns. The interior guns ;)

aaaah! makes no sense at all :P

The scene as it stands is fantastically filtered version of this:

What you seem to be aiming for is something more like

So for me personally, if that's what you are after lose the wall altogether and place the guns on the outer hull rather than within the ship.

And get rid the clone too? Sounds interesting... I will have to see if that is doable :D

Thanks again Bingo!

Possibly or you could put the gunners in a bubble of some kind or a forcefield or who knows, maybe the gunners armour is space battle ready, the possibilities are there if this the approach you want to take.

We'll see that in motion then. ^^ In the RoTS that shot reminded me this gun:

And this is some historical footage, the recoil is soooo coool. :)

Wouldn't it be nice if you set that asteroid field as an improvised refugee place? just alter a little bit the matte, put some Jedi starfighters parked here and there, the tantive and maybe even a reppublic SD (just to emphatize that organa represents in some way the continuity of the Republic, and that now every imperial ship is grey, you see this red one and say "hey, this are the good guys"), then erase the miners (?) or whatever those two guys standing there are, colour correct it, present it as a panoramic stablishing scene and zoom it in to any place of the shot (preferently the Tantive) and there you have, a clandestine atmosphere, in a lonely and far place in the galaxy, smelling like the borning of the rebelion (even if it's not explicit) and looks Otish.

I like it.

Yeah, that could be awesome.

No, we'll serve anyone, meaning anyone, and to anyone—at all!!!

I always thought Corusant should look like a war-zone, with pillars of smoke billowing out of the skyline and the carcasses of buildings surrounding the senate. It would be a siege state, with clone troopers acting as the only stabilizing feature. This would explain Palpatine's power consolidation much better. George really bumbled a fairly easy to tell story. . .

My god, it's full of asteroids...and stars. ;)

these are all awesome ideas.

Bob, are there parts that are totally locked down now or are you still open to any and all suggestions?

I still would prefer Luke and Leia born on the Tantive landed on Dagobah than some random asteroid field.

It just seems more tidy and adds resonance to Luke's line about finding the place familiar.

Author

Well, that would indeed be awesome Bingo! There's a big question regarding is it feasible or not; well, I certainly think it wouldn't be in a PT fancy way, but considering the spirit of this edit which is to lead ROTS to a good story and OT like, well, it could be done with a lot of effort in it; I mean, just a matte and the ship fliying towards it. However I still think that the asteroid field scene could be used to show a picture of a clandestine bunch of ships, but who says that "reunion" couldn't take place in Dagobah??

Author
Time

I hate that random asteroid base

Dagobah is the obvious choice to me

^Same. Though that's if you even have to have the kids born in this movie.

hehe right now I'm banging my head up against a wall. Pondering if I should wait for the Bluray release of the movies. The more special effect work I do, the more small problems I'm finding with blocky footage and the like.

Well even if I can't say it without any doubt, I think that if you keep all the AE files then you can change the source files freely and you won't have to do everything again...
