Wow, you really loved that movie. I liked *sigh* too, but you don't see me watching it three times in less than 24 hours...
When I got back I was treated to the incredibly bleak David Suchet version of Murder On The Orient Express which reminded me a bit of my journey down (only with more luxurious and spacious carriages).
On reflection it's possibly better than the 1974 film but that still has a special place in my heart.
Telefon (1977)

The Kovak Box (2006). plot wise a bit of a throwback to the sort of Science Fiction Thriller that was en vogue during the seventies with a bit of a Dan Brown non-dynamic on the side.
Sixty years ago I could imagine Hitchcock making a good stab at this film, it's structured very much like something like North By Northwest but lacks any of the panache or style that even the plots of films of that type have and it is directed rather blandly.
The one stand out element of the film is the genuinely creepy performance of David Kelly who in his brief moments on screen oozes evil in every nuanced motion and line delivery.
It's one of those performances that really should be in a much better film.
Death Proof and Planet Terror were on tv, and even with the dialog mangling, damn they're fun.
Did Rodrequez really shoot the cut reel from the middle of Planet Terror outta intrest?
Just watched the first part of The Sinking Of The Laconia, God it's grim.
A true story which I guess could roughly be described as a cross between Titanic, Das Boot and Lifeboat, it's certainly more compelling viewing than Titanic (I can't imagine it making as much money though or even being seen by a fraction of the people who saw that over-rated piece of tosh).

Yes, both movies were shot completely, since they weren't sure they could get the studios to agree with the Grindhouse format.
In this broadcast Planet Terror was second and the early Machete trailer was replaced with the actual movie trailer.
ah, I think he meant the sex scene.
Skyline. One of the worst movies ever, almost two hours of my life that ill never get back.

Definitive. I need to re-watch this. It's starting to snow and that's when I usually revisit this classic.
The Magnificent Ambersons-finally took the plunge and watched the best version I have of this. Even in butchered form (like Lady From Shanghai) , this is an absolute masterwork. See it if you can.
Rabbit Hole-slightly better than expected, but still not much going on other than people being distraught and not saying much...

you skipped three movies.
Red Dragon. I have seen both Red Dragon and Manhunter. Everyone seems to think Manhunter is the version. I think I prefer Red Dragon. It might be because I am so used to seeing Hopkins playing Lekter.

Deep down I still want to make a fan edit of Movies II-V. Just make one long film out of them. Somehow I never liked the slick look the films and the star got in the 80's.

"True Grit" 1969.
That opening song is terrible and that score tries so hard NO to be "Danny Boy" during the various panoramic shots of Colorado.
while I won't say the opening was good, I never got the idea that it was trying hard not to be Danny Boy. I do hope you watched the rest of the movie.

Oh, I've seen "True Grit" many times. The song always sucked but I had never been bothered by how similar the main theme in the score it to "Danny Boy" until last night's viewing.
I watched The Incredibles yesterday. Man, I love this movie. Great action, great story, great animation, 'incredible' sound mix . . . everything about it is awesome.
Sometimes I think Elastigirl comes off a little too shrill occasionally, but it's only a minor thing and part of it is just me being leery of shouting women anyway. lol
After.Life. Christina Ricci. That is all.
"Grindhouse" *The Complete Original Theatrical Version*
That was a lot of fun!!! Made a huge mistake, and turned it on just as me and the significant other sat down to dine on a wonderfully prepared steak dinner. It will be an evening long remembered.

Terminator 2. Damn fine movie if there ever was one.
Am I the only one who gets sad at the end? It's not depressing or anything, but . . . yeah. I got attached to Uncle Bob just like John did. ;)
(Perhaps more appropriately belonging in the tv thread, but I think having a terminator as a kind of father figure probably contributed to the complex nature of John's relationship with Cameron on the show. Hmm.)
Uncle Bob, eh?
True Lies.
as fun as it was when I first saw it back in '94.
How To Train Your Dragon
This was my first viewing, forgive me, I don't make it a priority of mine to watch every movie when they come out.
I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It was beautiful and it kept my attention. It never felt like it dragged.
My only beef with it was the fact that 70% of the Vikings had a Scottish accent. I know Gerard Butler and Craig Ferguson were in there, but why Scottish? Vikings weren't Scottish. They didn't fight dragons either, so I guess I can let it slide.
Despicable Me
This was also a first viewing. I will have to say, I loved it. It's plot was a little shakey, but it was executed in such a way that I couldn't help but love it. I also liked the art direction on it. You could definitely tell this was meant to be seen in 3D, but my eyes can't take it so 2D it is.
"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas
