I agree with that, but the way you got it there Bossk, it sounds like Ben is manipulating Luke to his own ends.

Hence why I said that it wasn't exactly the way of the Jedi but these were bleak times. Bleak times require desperate measures. And with Luke being one of the two last Jedi, well you're not left with much choice but to manipulate. Right?

well, the Jedi werent there actually during the time of ANH and ESB... hence the title Return of the Jedi. those werent Jedi talking to luke, those were people motivating him to bring back the order of the Jedi.

Motti has a point.
Remember in ANH that Obiwan says "I was once a Jedi Knight..."

So Obi Wan no longer even considers himself a Jedi.

Here's one for you all!!

It's a bit EU, but, if Luke and Leia are the only two Jedi left so to speak, why are there loads all of a sudden in all the EU books!!???

Why doesn't Obi-Wan just go gather all the Force sensitive folk out there, train em all up, and go kick some Empire ass!!!

I might be talking shit here, I'm very very very hungover!!

maybe he feared that if he would start training jedis, then the emperor and vader would sense their presence in the force and get them killed or try to bring them to the dark side.

and thats why luke found other force-sensitive people in the EU books.

as the EU explains it, the Emperor and his cronies could sense powerful jedi, and thus would hunt them down. Yoda hid on dagobah near a large concetration of darkside energy- the cave. I think Obi-wan managed to stay alive simply because Tattooine was a little off the beaten path- actually more like backwater.

then again, if obi-wan was found and killed, would have made for a very short film, wouldn't it?

as for obi-wan gathering up other force-sensitive people and training them? i don't think he would have had the recources to pull that off. at that point in the time line, the empire was pretty vast and powerful. i'm sure that if he just started flying around asking for jedi, it would eventually get back to vader. not only that, but the emperor and vader would probably notice a large concetration of force-users in one spot and send a star destroyer or twenty to wipe them out.

question? anybody ever wonder why everyone seems to have forgotten about the force? grand moff tarkin called it an ancient religion, but how long is in between AOTC and ANH? Couldn't have been that long.

About the obi-wan never beeing found, I've heard this theory (*could be a spoiler if I am right*) that Obi-Wan fought with Anakin after he became Vader, and Vader won, but he saw Luke with Obi-Wan, did not kill Obi-Wan, and said to both of them to run away and never to come back. That would explain the following things: "You should not have come back", Obi-Wan hiding Luke on Tatooine with Lars under the name Skywalker, Obi-Wan knowing Vader is Anakin, Vader knowing Luke is his son but not knowing about Leia (which was hid under the name Organa).

It is an "ancient religion" because it's been around for 15000 years, not because it hasn't been practiced since the ancient times. And it wasn't Tarkin who said that. It was some guy setting at the Evil Round Table.

Obi-Wan didn't want to lie to Luke, but Luke wasn't ready to hear the WHOLE truth. Yoda says so later.
Vader didn't let Obi-Wan go because of Luke. Vader didn't know about Luke until after ANH. And Obi-Wan didn't know about Leia. And niether one of them were Jedi. And Obi-Wan wasn't a Jedi Knight anymore, but he was still a Jedi...

That's just about covers lots of the recent posts that I want to comment on....

Oh, and I think Obi-Wan does know about Leia...

I think there are only a few who do know the whole truth...

Yoda, Obi-Wan, Bail, 3PO and R2(Who later get their memory wiped).......

They all have to know, and come to some agreement by the end of Ep3!!

I think!!

There's still the problem of Luke having the name Skywalker. I mean, didn't he meet someone in Tatooine who had met Anakin or his mother?

"Skywalker? Are you related in some ways to Anakin Skywalker? Former slave/pod racer?"
"Not that I'm aware of... Anakin Skywalker, eh? Wait a minute, that's my father!"
"He IS? Man... didn't you hear about it? He became Lord Vader."
"Oh crap! I better change my name fast... to... Anikin Starkiller, how does that sound?"

no, tarkin said it when vader said that he felt obi-wan was aboard the death star. admiral motti called it his sad devotion to that ancient religion.
