An Alteration to the OT that SHOULD be Done

Luke's lightsaber in TESB should be recoloured cyan.

In ANH, when Luke activates his father's lightsaber for the first time we see it with a nice clear cyan glow - totally unlike the azure (sky blue) of Obi-Wan's blade and the later film's saber.

Yeah, it may be have just been a glitch or whatever in the colouring process (like when it appeared white during the training scene aboard the Falcon). However, since it was first revealed with a cyan colour then that colour should take precedence.

Plus, it would add some subtle variety. =D

The reason for this:  Luke's saber's core was an in-camera effect achieved by a reflective sort of tape thing on the blade.  When they saw the effect in post, they decided it wasn't good enough, and added a glow around it.

Ben's and Vader's, on the other hand, were (mostly) rotoscoped from scratch, core and all, in post, like lightsabers were in the rest of the saga.

So, if anything, Luke's saber in Star Wars should be altered to match his Empire saber.

Besides, I like the Empire sabers the best of all six movies.  So admittedly, I'm biased.

They used the reflexive sticks in all lightsabre scenes in the original STAR WARS with like one exception, that's why Obi-Wan's lightsabre stops glowing in one of the shots where it's at a big angle.

I agree that Luke's ESB sabre is the best one.

Ha, right!  Original, but the SE ones aren't too offensive (minus the 2004 color issues).

Don't give Lucas any more ideas it, he has already ruined much of what made the originals great.

Suppressing the originals is the worst suppression  of film art and destruction of our cultural history.  Even worse when you consider the director and writer is in on it, usually filmmakers don't suppress their films.  Especially if they are the biggest commercial grossers in history modern before the Present day.

Especially if it is the work you did that is beloved by the masses, why would you suppress that, but not suppress the other works which are hated, like Howard the Duck or the Star Wars Prequels, or Indiana Jones IV.

I agree with the first post, I always liked Luke's original blade color.

They used the reflective sticks, yes, but they look to have been rotoscoped out in most shots. There's a couple interviews/articles out there (in Korean) where Nelson Shin talks about doing the lightsaber animation. At the time, he was working at DePatie-Freleng, who you may recall being credited for "additional optical effects."

The point is, most shots have the reflective blades covered over with roto animation.
