RETURN OF THE JEDI 1983 THEATRICAL VERSION RECONSTRUCTION DVD by Harmy (MKV, NTSC DVD5 AND PAL DVD9 AVAILABLE) — Page 8

Basically every shot in this film has been colour corrected to some degree.

ROTJ has the same blue shift as SW and ESB but it isn't as noticeable because of the over-all warmer colour palette. It is my opinion that empire isn't any more blue-shifted than the other two, it is only way more noticeable because it is less colourful and uses a colder colour palette.

Yeah, I've noticed that all three films were pretty much equally blue-cast.  If that has been dialled down I've no doubt that it will be much more watchable.  The 2004 video also has a problem with oversaturated reds in various places, particularly in Tatooine scenes, although they're not as large a grievance on the whole.

Sweet! I've really been looking forward to this! Could someone PM the link(s), please?

Thanks, Harmy!

OK, everyone, just FYI, the mp4 was something I put together quickly to have sort of a preview for x-mas, a workprint no.2 if you want, and there are a few issues that will be fixed for the DVD. Also the quality of the mp4 is nowhere near the DVD. In fact the compression makes it look so bad that I don't think it could ever be preferable to the GOUT.

Now, the cutting is all done, but it'll be a few days (more like one or two weeks) before the DVDs are out.

I asked Chewtobacca to render the DVDs for me as I have no previous experience with DVD authoring and frankly am not much interested in learning and he agreed, for which I'd like to thank him publicly. So a DVD player playable DVD5s (both PAL and NTSC) will be available in a week or so from Chewtobacca (he said he was having some trouble with his internet conection so it may take a while).

But for those who won't be playing this from a DVD, there is a 6,4GB mpeg2 file available for download. It has Belbucus' 2.0 1993 laserdisc PCM audio recompressed to a 384 Kbps AC3 and it is 720x576 25fps anamorphic. It is the best quality this is ever gonna be available in (although I believe the DVDs will be only a tiny little bit lower quality). I wasn't originally gonna do this but then I figured, what the hell, if someone wants it why not let them have it. So PM me if you're interested.

Now that this is out I'm not sending any more links to the mp4 version and I'd like to ask people who already have it not to do so either. And this is why:

Ok, sorry guys, I f*cked up again. I forgot to add the black mates when encoding the mpeg2 file, so the edges keep changing colours to different shades of dark grey. I'll have to reencode and reupload again :-(

I think it's important to make a DVD-5 available first because some people still cannot burn DVD-9s, but I'm sure a DVD-9 could be made available at some point.  Hairy Hen's 5.1 mix has material not in the original, so Harmy decided not to include it because this is a preservation -- or were you thinking of including the French and Spanish audio?  I was thinking about that the other day.

Cool.

Just curious: Can the 720x576 25fps anamorphic MPEG2 be easily converted to AVCHD?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

It should be easy enough in something like multiAVCHD but like I already said, the mpeg2 version I uploaded is faulty, so I won't be sending anymore links to that and I also decided not to make a new one, because I'd be happy if Chewtobacca encoded both DVD5 and DVD9, so for those of you who want higher quality, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for that.

Concerning the foreign audios on a DVD9, I'd say why not and I'll be happy to provide the CZ dub for that too.

Now, I had an idea about the hairy_hen's 5.1 audio, if hairy_hen was alright with it maybe we could just replace the part where it differs from the original with the SE 5.1 audio. Or even better if hairy_hen did that, I'll PM him about it.

I'm not quite sure what you are asking.  If you mean can it be upscaled to, for example, 720p the answer if yes, but it's probably a waste of time as your player will probably upscale it better.

If you mean can it be converted to a 720x576 16:9 AVCHD, then the answer is yes, but it has to be interlaced not progressive to be in spec.  Crazy though it seems, 480p and 576p are out of spec for AVCHD, although some BD players will play such AVCHDs.  If you know that your player can do this, then just use Ripbot or whatever to convert it.

Or just don't convert it. Any player that plays AVCHD will most likely play DVDs, so you could just wait for the DVD and save yourself the trouble ;-)

Sorry I'm new here. What material in Hairy Hen's mix isn't original? Oh and btw this project looks fantastic. Finally a definitive ROTJ Reconstruction!

I didn't actually hear it yet, but I'm told there is some music added, which was never in any of the previous mixes.

OK. I was momentarily confused between 720p resolution and DVD resolution. Sorry.

Seems I should wait for the NTSC DVD-9.

Thanks!

Oh got it. Thanks Harmy and Chewtobacca for the prompt replies! As I expressed in my previous post, I am very excited for this project!

Those subs look excellent! I'm glad to see they're hard-coded. The rancor looks cool too.

Shit!!! Well, just a heads up, it will stay misspelled... :-(

Edit: It's misspeled as "Wookie." I really hope that's not gonna be a deal-breaker for anyone, that would be nitpicking at it's worse. There's no way in hell I'm gonna reencode and reupload the whole film because of one vowel...
