Holy crap this is better than anything on TV!
The Blu-ray set is (unfortunately) going to be crap. It is up to the community to preserve these films. It would be nice to have better quality source material, that's for sure. But, what folks here have done, I never would have thought possible until I popped the AVCHD's in. I am eternally grateful for that. Polishing a turd is a complicated process, and I'm all for setting up a fund for an actual print being restored, should the opportunity ever come.
