Just got home from "Tron Legacy".

Not bad, not great. My first IMAX feature film, and first 3-D film I've been to since "Jaws 3-D" back in 1983.  Felt it could have been a bit shorter for what it was. Felt a bit too much like a clone of the (new) Batman, and also last two Matrix films. But a fun ride for the ticket price. The first Tron was a bit more original. This was just a rehash of the games, and some re-cycled dogma from other popular films of the type. Nothing new here, but nothing stomach turning ether.  The attached trailer for the upcoming "Mars Needs Moms" film, now that was stomach turning.

lol @ Leguman

Oh, I didn't dislike Prince Caspian; I just found this one to be superior.  The first and third seem like they have greater rewatchability, and the focus is more on the adventure and less on battle, which I think suits the material better.

Now you mention it, I did notice his voice was different, but Simon Pegg did a great job with it, so it wasn't a problem.

The social network. I can see how some people might not find it entertaining but I really enjoyed it.

Saw The Fighter last night.  A true story and a very interesting one as well.  Christian Bale makes the film.  His performance as a junkie ex-fighter is fucking amazing.  He's almost unrecognizable physically and he captures the real guy perfectly (you see a short clip of the real Dicky at the end). He's someone who, while not terribly bright to begin with, comes across as almost mentally damaged from years of drug use.  It's a fascinating performance.  Oscar worthy for sure.

Is it a film about Jean-Claude Van Damme ?

Started watching 1776 last night, got it from the library because Gaffer and Warbler seem to like it. Really enjoyed it so far, but was too exhausted from travel to finish it.

Yeah, well you know what happens when you assume. Doubleofive puts a bomb in your car....

Last thing I watched was ILM : creating the impossible. could have been good but there was too much re-used footage from other docos and not nearly enough covering the 'how' of things - mostly it's just a gloating of their successes.

Planning to see Tomorrow when the war began later tonight. FX.

link - before 005 asks 'what's that?' ;)

Unbelievable!

As a long-time fan of the original (one of only two John Wayne movies I like) - I have to say goodbye to it now.  2010 marks the proper telling of the story.  Gone are John Wayne-playing-John Wayne, the poor acting of Glen Campbell, the over-acting of Kim Darby, and the 1960s Hollywood niceness and silliness.

In their place -  depth, realism, believability, and the harshness of the book.  Oscars should go to Jeff Bridges & Haliee Steinfeld.  Truly amazing performances.  Hats off to Matt Damon as well, for bringing depth to LaBoeuf.

If you're a fan of the book, this film will be a Godsend.  If you're are a fan of John Wayne playing his usual, for the upteenth time, prepare to see how it's really done.

No two ways about it, I have to move something out of my Top Ten All Time to make room for True Grit 2010.  Going again Thursday. At least once more after that.

I was so mad at myself - I saw it with my dad, brother, and grandpa on Thursday night, and I fell asleep in the middle of it.  I was loving it, too - it wasn't boring or anything.  I just ... nodded off, and missed a good hour of the movie.

Loved what I saw, and I really want to see it again to get the full experience.

I'm Still Here.

Well, the first 30 minutes or so, anyway.  Knowing the truth before seeing it ruined it for me.  So bored...

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!    fill your hands you son of a b****!!!!!!!!   How can you defend the unneeded remaking of a classic.

John Wayne was great in the original.   John Wayne IS Rooster Cogburn.  I highly doubt  Jeff Bridges could do anywhere near as good in the part as Wayne did.     Why do so many people have to come down on John Wayne?  Yes a lot of his characters were very similar, but I say(imho) he learned how to play that kind of part better than else has every done.    He is a great actor.   Anyone that doesn't think so needs to see the following:

Stagecoach
Sands Of Iwo Jima
The Searchers
True Grit(the original)
The Shootist

then come back and tell me that John Wayne can't act.

last two movies that I watched:

Batman Forever

Batman and Robin(1997)

I had always thought that Batman Forever was the worst of the two.   I thought perhaps I was being to harsh on it, so I went back and watched Batman Forever again.   I was mistaken,  it is much worse than I remembers.     The Riddler in this movie was more silly than the one from the 60's tv show.    The movie was totally unrealistic(even for a comic book movie).   It was way too silly and stupid.   It seems like it was made for 5 year olds.

Batman and Robin was a little better but was still bad. very bad.    I do have one question.   Near the end of the movie (after they take care of Poison Ivy)  Batman and Robin and Batgirl go after Mr. Freeze.   In the next scene of the version I was watching(which is the blu-ray) they are headed to the observatory to get Mr Freeze.   It seems between the scenes Batman, Robin, and Batgirl changed costumes.  The costumes accentuated in silver and what not.   Not explanation was given for the costume change.  Is there a scene missing from the version I was watching that explain the costume change?  When I originally saw it in 1997, I don't remember asking myself why the change in costume, so I am just wondering if there is a scene missing from the blu-ray.    Any info here would be appreciated.

I don't think so.

Also, try it before you hate on it - remember, like Anchorhead said, it's closer to the source material. That might just be a plus after all.

Because I saw it and thought it was much better.  It's the story from the book, not the 1960s take on the story, which was reworked to suit John Wayne and softened to appeal to a wider audience.

John Wayne IS Rooster Cogburn.

So is Jeff Bridges. He also gives a deeper and better portrayal of Rooster Cogburn as he was originally written, which is what I prefer.

Back to the future Part 3.

Needed something to try out on a wall projector and felt like revisiting Hill Valley.

The funny thing is I was watching Michael J fox in his 1885 [seamus] makeup and thinking "he really does look like Eric Stoltz here".

looking forward to seeing True Grit.
