lol
i second that!

does anyone know if someone has been cast for Tarkin in EP III?

Well, I have a picture of a spy report from theforce.net that I will have to dig up. Hopefully it is real because the young actor looked very similar to the Grand Moff Tarkin we know and love from A New Hope. Anyway, Tarkin is not mentioned on a selected list of the characters and such for Episode 3, but there are a few Senators and of course the obvious, Obi, Mace, etc...

Maybe it's just me but I seem to remember some picture from about a year ago showing some young actor who may (or may not) be playing Tarkin. And it was a great likeness minus something like 50 years of age. Does anyone else remember seeing this?

I don't know the name of the actor who played Tarkin, but I was wondering if he has appeared in any other (reasonably well known) films?

Here it is again.

The link was miscoded. This isn't the shot I was thinking of. The one I saw showed a much younger actor playing Tarkin. Or maybe what I saw was a shot of him out of makeup. Not sure.

Samatar, are you wondering who played Tarkin in ANH? If so, it's Peter Cushing and he is very well known as an actor from old 50s/60s/70s monster movies. Check his listing on IMDb. The guy has been in a ton of flicks.

Thanks Bossk. Looks like he has been in some fantastically corny horror flicks... I also noted he has played Dr Who at one stage, although it looks like just a one off.

i think it's not very good make-up. makes him look even older than the original one. his eyes have sockets and are red, and his skin is so pale, almost looks like a zombie...

Tarkin is not on the cast list for episode III, neither on IMDB or on starwars.com, you guys sure he's in?

Could be a very minor role. Check IMDb on AOTC for Aayla Secura. She's a minor character but a fan favorite (okay, so just the guys). So much so that they've even made a SW Unleashed figure of her. Yet she doesn't appear in the AOTC credits on IMDb either. Is she even in the film's credits? I don't think she is.

I've always seen it as Darth Vader not being the most powerful man in the universe, but just a very high up guy who was close with the Emperor. Grand Moff Tarkin was in charge of the Imperial army, directly under the Emperor. When he died, Vader took over his position. In ANH Vader seemed like an enforcer type. The only force user left, working for the Imperium. Like, Tarkin was in charge, but Vader actually went down on "away missions". I know it's sacrilege to talk about Star Trek, but I'm thinking like Picard and Riker. Picard is captain of the ship, but Riker is directly under him and is the guy who actually gets his hands dirty.

Oh, and I just checked imdb.com...

Seems Peter Cushing died 10 years ago, and before Star Wars he did LOTS of horror movies, especially ones involving Dracula and vampires...and Frankenstein. Like, LOTS...same with after too. Nothing anyone would have seen, I imagine.

I noticed he was listed as a cast member in "Top Secret!" although I don't remember his role. It was that very silly movie in the vein of "Flying High".

I think that in ANH, Vader is definitely not anywhere near the most powerful man in the Emperors command. He is more like, as Leia suggests, Tarkin's lap dog. The other officers neither respect or fear him, it's more like they're jealos of him or think he shouldn't be in his current position. That's the feeling I get anyway. However, after the Death Star is destroyed, most of the very senior officers would have been killed, so Vader moves into a position of much greater power, IE one level down from the Emperor. My feeling is that he probably would have acheived this position anyway, due to his "friendship" with Palpatine, but it would have taken longer if this had not happened.

tarkins lap dog on paper, but i doubt that anyone other than the emperor could beat him. its only coz the emperor assigned vader to tarkins chain of command.

How powerful was Vader, anyway? I asume Grand Moff Tarkin was closer to the emperor than Vader was... And the way Motti speaked to him ("your sad devotion"...), he wouldn't speak like that if Vader was really powerful.

Cushing was the librarian with the one ridiculously oversized eye who couldn't reach high enough to get the books on the shelf. Remember him? Very bit part (about a couple of minutes) so I have no idea why he was listed so high unless it was just so that the movie had a name actor in the castlist.

I haven't seen that movie probably for 15 years. I did see bits on TV not long ago, but only about 5 minutes worth.

I think Vader is powerful in terms of his force abilities, but that Palpatine keeps him firmly in his place. He is the Empeorors servant and would never do anything that might upset him (until the end of course).
