At last How 3D Really Works.

I wonder how some of the older 3D movies would look on 3D BD?
I think there are quite a few older movies that would be spectacular in 3D:
SOUND OF MUSIC
HOW THE WEST WAS WON (imagine the smile box version in 3D on a 65" HDTV)
JAWS (or any Spielberg movie for that matter... even DUEL)
BEN HUR
ROAD WARRIOR
Hell, even older Disney animated works would be interesting to see in 3D (and being animated, it should be a lot easier than converting live action material).
I look forward to the expansion of improving virtual reality to the point where we no longer need to go outside and interact with the world and then find ourselves plugged into the matrix....
wait a minute...

Thanks for that link TV's Frink. The lack of content is the main drawback to the current market of 3D telly's and the studio's and hardware manufacturers aren't doing anything to help the situation.
On a different note, I saw TRON Legacy in IMAX 3D on Sunday. I must admit, I was very impressed. They didn't rely on any cheap jumping out of the screen at you tricks, but the action sequences benefited greatly from the added depth of field. Although at times it seemed as if you couldn't tell if it was in 3D or not, I think subliminally at least, that added depth helped engross you in the film even more.
Of course, the IMAX screen might of helped as well.
Your brain just makes s**t up!

Lol. I usually like Kermode's take on a lot of his movie reviews, but he's generally known to be a complete hater of 3D in general. That's his opinion and he's welcome to it. Of course, there's plenty of others out there who do like the effect, and the early momentum is building to a point where there's really no going back...whether it's theatrically or in the home. I just hope he can get used to the fact eventually.
Thanks for bumping the thread Bingowings, as it's reminded me that there's been a heap of 3D-related news lately that I really must find time to add here soon.
Lion King and Beauty and the Beast coming to 3D BD from Disney later this year. But where are TS1,2,3?

I was referring to older movies that were originally made in 3D, not somehow making 3D versions of older movies that were originally made in 2D. Movies that were originally made in 2D should be left that way.

Can't say I agree there... would still like to see the above titles in 3D... and whether anyone likes it or not, once the tech is perfected, expect to see the above released in a 3D format.
And as far as previous 3D stuff (the red and blue version) converted to the newer 3D process... not sure if it would make those movies any better, since most of them were pretty gimmicky.
I mean, would COMIN' AT YA! really improve in quality as a movie if the 3D was better? Or TREASURE OF THE 4 CROWNS?

In other news today, the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG) has revealed its 1st Quarter 2011 Home Entertainment Report. From the DEG's press release, here are the salient highlights:
...
Comparing the first nine months of 3D TV sales to the first full year of HDTV sales, HIS Screen Digest noted that 3D TV adoption is outpacing HDTV adoption by 50 percent.
FutureSource projects that by 2015, 3D TVs will be in more than 60% of US households and 3D Blu-ray players will be in more than 75% of US households.

Not in this household 3-D is a gimmick and is useless to me.
I will cling to my 35mm film viewing until theaters phase them out, and cling to 2D movies and tv they will have to drag me kicking and screaming otherwise. The day all cinema is 3D or Video, or tv is televised completely in crap 3-D is the day i go back to reading books and books only, lol.
I mean these twerps probably want the news in 3-D too, is just banal and stupid.

Avatar looked fake because it was all created greenscreen and was cgi fake..
There was no film grain and even the real actors looked like wax figures or plastic.
Totally not sold sorry.
I like true imax with film, or omnimax. not video projection.
If they allow choice which should exist then people can choose, forcing 3-D on people is insane, Not anywhere near the same as the transition from silent to sound or black and white to color.
If i want video i'll stay at home. Film or Nothing.
It is as crazy as abandoning the art of film for HD CAM, or forgoing projecting real film and replacing it with overly bright and videolike DLP.
They can get DLP to look like film then i am sold, otherwise no sale.
If all of moviedom transitions from professionals to lazy and mediocre then count me out. Over a hundred years of celluloid traded for pure crap.

Whatever man i don't know anyone who is sold on 3-D a gimmick to charge 3-4 times as much for tickets. They are not offering you three times as much story, with these poorly scripted and acted cgi farces.
I made my opinion clear and won't post anymore on this thread, people want to be contrary just to be contrary it seems, if you really enjoy 3-D fine good for you.
Any Cinematogrpaher worth anything won't shoot on 3-D because depth of field issues have not been solved. Sorry i don't buy Jim Cameron's nonsense.
He may be a good salesman like Walt Disney. Does not mean i have to buy into it.

3-4 times as much for tickets? So if a regular movie costs $8, to see it in 3D you have to pay $32 for a single ticket? Holy shit your theater sucks.
I exaggerated a little but 24 dollars is highway robbery.

A theatre near me charges $5 for M-Th shows, or $8 for 3D.
