Cosmo,

I don't feel threatened buying a bootleg copy on DVD since I already own the 1995 WS "Faces" OT and the 1997 WS SE on VHS. The DVD would only serve as a backup. Under the copyright law, I believe you have the right to make a backup copy of a movie/song/software/etc. for your own use, given you (legally) bought that movie/song/software/etc. in the first place. I just don't have the time or the resources to make my own backup copies. so I'm looking to buy... or trade.

Hey, that's an idea! I've got some Hamilton Collection Star Wars/Star Trek plates and some other stuff I could trade for both DVD sets. Set your browser to my personal page and take a look. Don't mind the prices. This was done a long time ago when the Canadian dollar was low(er). Anybody interested in trading can contact me. That should keep things nice and legal.

I was trying to download the 4 discs from Bittorrent but all i got was star wars before the sites were lost. Does anyone have any links that still work? I got about 90% of the supplements disc....about 15% of empire...and 0% of Jedi. I got star wars and am VERY impressed with the set.

Someone please PM me with a link? Or does anyone want to trade?

Just out of curiosity, what do you have to trade?
The original Star Wars trilogy: Our cultural history deserves to be preserved and should be available to the public like all great works of art!

To digitalfreaknyc,

Were your torrent files downloaded from torrentz.com that just went down a few days ago. It went down before I had a chance to download the torrent files for all three OT LD rips. I'd be interested in getting those torrents anyway if you still have them.

I found some more torrents but haven't tried them yet. I don't know if they're the same ones you've got. I'll gladly send them to you. For me to be able to PM you, you've got to allow PM's in your profile first (the padlock icon).

Nope...mine were from torrentbox.com which must have went down sometime last night. like i said...i got all of star wars but I still need the other 3.

Just out of curiosity, what do you have to trade?

At the moment...not a ton of Star Wars stuff as I haven't transferred my god-knows-how-many videotapes to DVD. The only rarities I have on DVD right now are the Holiday Special, The Making of Star Wars & Empire (mastered from the laserdisc) and the Star Wars: SE Electronic Press Kit (mastered from the original tape/1st gen).

I cant find any links but i have the actual torrent files for all 3 movies if anyone wants them, I dont have the 4th disc file.

To digitalfreaknyc:

What is the quality of the rips like?

Darth Balls...

What do you mean the actual files? The vob files? or you mean the links to the torrents? I have the links to the torrents...but they're down. Vanished.
Personally...*I* think the anamorphic Star Wars looks FANTASTIC. As someone who owns the Definitive Collection boxed set, the SE lasers, and i've purchased about 5 different bootlegs of the original trilogy...this is definitely the best. Obviously not better than the lasers but they've definitely been cleaned up. As far as the TK-47 versions, I can't say anything about those.

I'm not about to let someone rip me off for $60 or whatever it is to buy them when I'm paying for DVD-R's. That disgusts me.

I have the .torrent files that you can keep on your computer. Do you mean youve got the torrent files and they dont download or do you mean youve got the link to the site but the sites gone.

Hey all,
new to the forum, and would like to thank you all for your efforts in this noble cause. I've managed to find two of the unknown-anamorphic DVD's on various Torrents. I've not yet found the ROTJ or 4th Bonus disc. If anyone could offer direction in this I'd appreciate it. The first two look GREAT and the results are very impressive. I'm seriously interested in obtaining a set from TR-47 as I'd like a high-quality version from him also to keep safe. However, these anamorphic DVD's are very well done from what I've seen of the first two. I'd easily recommend them to anyone looking for the originals in good condition with nice menus and whatnot.

Thanks for the help you all have rendered me, and if you should need anything just shoot me an email.

Strong words?

Really?

Because THIS is the email I received when I contacted someone:

Were you interested in the
original version of the trilogy on DVD? I do not sell them.
I only provide LD backups on DVD. I only charge for the supplies and
shipping.
They are 16:9 anamorphic and are the best out there. I do have the extras
disc as well.
These are intended as backups only. I can send the DVDs with VERY nice
covers, cases, with label art as well. The covers are the orignal poster
art from each movie and look like an offical DVD release.
Either way, let me know.
Total for all 4 DVDs with artwork with shipping and handling is $60. $45
without the cases, artwork and labels. If you want just the movies, take
off $5, so $55 or $40.
Thanks and again, they are backups only for your LDs.

Unless the price went down for these "supplies"...then that's the price i was quoted.

And FYI the torrents are back up. I'm downloading the other 4 discs as we speak. For free. No charge for "supplies."

These torrent files are the same thing as the aforementioned anamorphic versions, and they are good but not as good as the versions I have. I'm kind of surprised someone would spend so much time and effort making nice menus and authoring them in 16:9 with the original LD markers as chapter stops only to use a mediocre LD player (DVL 919) to transfer them with.

To Bossk:
A torrent is a small file that allows you to download via a p2p app called bittorrent. Basically you open the file and it downloads.. there's no gui or control over the speeds. Go to suprnova.org to see some of these files.

.

How do you know which LD player was used to make them?

And as was stated beforehand...the visual quality is very similar. Personally, I'd rather have nice menus, chapter stops, the commentaries (though they are sparse at best). Shows the person put a lot of effort into the presentation. And I'm really amazed at the quality.

Again...i'm very curious to know how much you are charging people for your set...IF you're not the poster that was mentioned above. Because that guy was ripping people off and I told him so.

Yes I posted this above. I'm in the process of getting the other 3 right now. Can't wait! I already have some people lined up to trade copies with!

To TR47... Thank you! It took a while for someone to answer my question. I appreciate it as I've never heard anyone even refer to .torrent files before in my life until this past week on this thread.

I just now noticed you also post on thedvdetective forums, not sure if you have seen me there or not. Yes, I do buy legit releases also

I actually DID email about that set and I believe it was the guy that runs that site that told me about your set. I thought it was you who emailed me back (I posted the email above) and I was so disgusted by how much he wanted to rip me off for the set. I emailed him back and told him I would pay for the DVD-r's only and he never responded. I guess that wasn't you?

Yes...i'm on the dvddetective forums. Kinda just got on it. I have a good amount of imported DVD's but haven't used their services yet. Not too many that I still need. Mostly japanese releases.

an update: i got the supplements disc. VERY nice menus! I continue to be VERY impressed with this set.

No, I think you have me mixed up with someone else. The version I have is not anamorphic, nor am I asking $60 for it. BTW there is no email address listed above. Also, when you buy from me, you are not just paying for the discs; you are paying for the time involved with the project plus the risk involved in bringing you the set safely. The proceeds are also going to help fund a new dual layer ultimate transfer later this year, complete with all the bells & whistles plus as many bonus features as I can find. If this still offends you, I'm sorry; plenty of others want these movies in their true format on DVD, and are not concerned with minutiae or petty moralizing. I don't mean to sound condescending, it's just the facts.

I had a download started last week that I got from suprnova.org, but it's gone. I got about 10% of SW and 30% of ESB. If there is a working torrent somewhere, please let me know. The bits I have might help, even if marginally.
