The Empire Strikes Back IMPERIAL "AUDIOPHILE" EDITION - Restored & Remastered Score - J. Williams & LSO (Released) — Page 5

I've finally torn myself away from the IAE to listen to Tron Legacy this week.  But I'd be interested in v2 and v3 just for "historical importance" as well.

How come you don't keep your stuff? It should be like... of historical importance. lol

Because I've learned.

Always throw the lessons when you've finished with these my friend, otherwise you'll stick to these all your life and you'll miss the point where it was meant to lead you. ;)

I pulled the music from another source on the Internet.   I came here to pay respect to the guy that pulled this together as it is terrific.   So bravo to ABC or whatever his name now is.

Then I read through this thread and what seems like a fun project ends ... oddly.  pm this pm that.   Then a google search brings up posts that this was meant to be a project to be distributed only within some sort of secret circle of friends and certain posters.  So now, there are philosophical posts about not keeping 'stuff' at a thread that is about stuff?  Whatever.  I may be new to this forum but I'm not new to forums.

Hi Junkanoo

The "stuff" TRIFORCE was referring to were my older attempts of improving the sound of the ESB set. There have been 4 or 5 before the "Audiophile Edition" (3CDs-double set), and the definitive "Imperial Audiophile Edition" (5CDs+1DVD-triple set). The only ones that I will keep for myself are these two (the AE for "historical importance"...). Hope it clears it all.

As for the rest of your post, I admit I'm not used to forums and then hardly understand when it seems there's quite a bunch of people who are waiting for your project to be released but still nobody speaks or wants to manifest interest. Thus, misunderstandings take birth like on tehparadox where they were watching the project from there and people said "hey! He's gonna share it in private!...Blahblah"... when I just warned it would be if nobody cared, indeed.

All depended in the interest shown in here. I've made those threads for this at OT.com, no? So, what's fair?

The project(s) have been announced long enough to let people the time to say they were interested, to share thoughts on what has been provided as samples... Then a daily checking at OT.com with not the least comment for months when you're working on such project (AE thread) and made everything to explain and to compare the improvements isn't encouraging at all.

... But I've dealed with my frustration with the help of some people and in the end:

The AE has been released (edit: and let's be fair, it has had a lot of feedbacks, so I'm glad), the IAE has been entirely uploaded especially thanks to the encouragement and the warm feelings of Steb74 by pm (I could have kept this definitive fix just for myself as it's a headache to upload from my computer), so all ends well and I wish you all the luck to find the IAE in it's entirety.

Now I'm not a SW fan especially and if the community wants to preserve the IAE they're most welcome. Just forget the author, he's not a long term resident here and not necessarily a nice guy. ;)

Thanks a lot for your words.

ABC/Legu, your perspective on the matter makes a lot more sense after this explanation. I think, though, that no one comments on threads while you work on projects because no one has anything to say. It's not that we don't love your work (WE LOVE YOUR WORK!), but what is there to say? Although we can recognize the superior quality of your final product, most of us don't have the know how to say much other than "Well this sounds like it will be good". It's not like Adywan's ridiculously long threads where people get into arguments over and over - Instead, we just wait.

I'm willing to argue if that's what ABC wants. ;-)

Ok... Sorry mods, I think the OP for this project needs and worths to be clearly readable... I mean it's still a Star Wars Preservation forum, no?

Leguman time !

This project is an updgrade on many points of the previous "Audiophile Edition". It is my definitive set & fix.

- Check here the previous remixing/editing details (version 1)-

...What's new since the 1st "AE":

  • EQ's: mostly 1993 sessions mixes tracks, using a 20Khz parametric equalizer to manage the 20Khz tone that is particular to these. Overall, the CD3 from the AE has been the main reference for new EQs. A lot of tracks from it then replace the previous CD1 & 2 ones.
  • Pitch corrections: 5M4/6M1; 6M3; 7M3; 9M4 + 1M2 Alt this one checked against the 1980 film mix)
  • Balance adjustment on a few tracks
  • New source occasionnaly used for enhancement: the NPR Radio Drama for 6M3; 10M1
  • Redone tracks: 6M2 (uses the film mix instead of the SE remix); 9M4, 1M2 Alt.
  • Editing: checked and corrected when needed against J Williams piano sketches manuscript (scoring sheets).
  • Other improvements: notably 8M2, bringing back the background details (xylophone(?) harmonics) from the sessions mix during Luke's vision passage.

+ A few other details.

bars in order to allow the correct editing with the following segment.

7m3-12m3/12m4 FINALE, END CREDITS  6'50"
(Film version)
Same as original, with expanded intro from 7m3. The "Imperial March"
is replaced here with its alternate "End Credits Insert" (Anthology bonus
track). John Williams would surely have chosen to present this original
version on the 1980 album but it seems the available recordings of this
part are corrupted with saturation due to too loud volume as testify the
film, the soundtracks, and even the NPR Radio Drama audio-books.

And it's alllll wonderful.

Now I'll listen to this for another four days.

Hey, can anybody PM me a link for the third cd of this set?  I have the first two but am missing the third--I'd really appreciate it.  :)

Once again I'd like to commend ABC for his awesome work on this.  He's definitely gone above and beyond in preserving and restoring the ESB score.

Same here. Need a link for set 3.

1 and 2 are simply wonderful. The amount of effort put into this ESB score is amazing.

Can someone please tell me where and how I can get the links to download this set?  I have been looking all over the net for a week and reading this thread for the last half hour and nowhere are the links listed.  Can someone please help me out?

Love this! I have an older version of the RSO album and it is fantastic. A poster on a different board provided Set 2 and it is brilliant as well. I especially enjoy the liner notes. Anyone have a link to sets 1 and 3? I get those and I'm a happy camper. For some reason, I really dig tracks that have the cue numbers as well. Great job all around!

Hi all !

I've just registered and I want to dedicate my first post along with all my LOVE to ABC for his AMAZING work.

I have been through tens/hundreds of posts to understand the amount of work/time/skill required to build those custom editions...

Even though I am no professional musician, I am a fan of John Williams and a big fan of Star Wars. Since I have come across this forum (2 days ago), I have realized I can "rediscover" the OT scores...

I have downloaded ABC's "Salvage Edition" as well as ESB "Optimum Edition v3" (man I can't wait to listen to these...). And then I have come across this "Audiophile Edition". ABC himself somewhere in this forum very modestly stated that although he doesn't consider his work "professional", maybe ESB "Audiophile Edition" could deserve such a title...

As you can imagine, I would highly appreciate if someone could provide me with links to what I suspect is a masterpiece !

Thank you very much again ABC !!! (and all the good souls that provide support on this forum)
