It's really sad that we lost Irvin Kershner and Leslie Nielsen practically at the same time.

Ady, if it's not too late for suggestions, maybe in the ending credits of Empire Revisited, you could include a dedication to Irvin Kersher.  Just in simple text:

"This fan-edit is dedicated to Irvin Kershner, a man who made James Bond "never say never again," and gave Luke Skywalker a journey into his soul.  May we be forever grateful."

"and actually had a character named "Robocop 2" in a movie by the same name." ;-)

Seriously, I like the dedication text.

That executor underside is only down to the crushed blacks in the 2004 transfer. You could see the underside prior to this. Unless a hd transfer of the pre 2004 version ESB miraculously turns up it's going to have to stay that way i'm afraid. CG isn't an option either. And i don't want to replace it with a different shot of the Executor because it would screw the compsite

And the other executor shot looks much better as it is originally as viewed from the underside.

Thats pity ady.. Since you are fixing everything from shots and etc. I remember that you mention that you will replace a bit radical the shot of the SD getting smashed by the asteroid and i thought about suggesting replacing the very poor executor I dont know if its worthy to be saved only colorly because its flat as hell. Since in your clips you were used wisely the use of a 2d element (much more wisely from ANH:R i can say) then for me a shot of the executor that have more detail or a subtle new shot i believe it will balance even more the feeling "Revisited" I dont get why a small wise of CG cant be the work done. Tho if its too dark you can also manage to make the long shot also dead black to match the previous or if you wish the 2004's tranfer aesthetic.

Also pity that you mentioning that many shots will take even the smallest treatment f.e. you will replace the distant star destroyer elements when needa's shuttle goes down so i have to ask.. Why have the same executor element in hoth and asteroid shots when even the subtlest difference can push the edit to the sky? I suggested different angles but still you can manage to make a hybrid one that is still not the same with the previous(cheap).

I couldnt refuse the fact that even major star destroyer scenes are copy paste with later ones but it could sell the idea. The executor has a major wow factor that it has to be showed in the every possible impressive angle.

To Angel's point about cleaning up the officer's holograms so they look cleaner - aren't they distorted because of the asteroid field? And Vader has them move the Executor clear of the field so he can get a clear signal to the Emperor. I like the distortion on the officers, it works exactly how it's supposed to.

No mr Lemoni snicket, my point was the officers should have more detail and clarity and then will downgrade to match the OT ones. The point of having so many differences in holograms it might cause a confusion. Have a detailed holo with as much as distortion and noise you want but still have details that are not blured or vazelined then there you have it.

The kersher and leslie is offtopic ;)

Irvin Kershner is off-topic on a thread about The Empire Strikes Back? Okay, topic fascist. ;-)

And I still don't see why the officers all need more detail, distortion is distortion. Each to their own :-)

ESB-R *is* ESB.

I haven't been on here in a while. Just been following all the updates; good work on Ady's part so far.

RIP Irvin Kershner, my heart goes out to his family, friends and to all those whom loved his stunning work. He was a true inspiration for many, including a good friend of mine who's gone on to make his own movies at university.

Jokes about ESB are ESB also.  Anecdotes about ESB are ESB also.  Boba Fett fetishes are ESB also.  But they are considered off topic.

It's also worth noting there is a thread in General SW Discussion devoted to his death, as I mentioned.

Having said all that, I'm not in charge, and I also firmly believe in the OP's right to direct the thread, so I shall bring it up no more.*

Damn, Irvin Kershner dies in the 30th anniversary year of his best, and the best Star Wars, film. Leslie Nielsen dying was sad enough; some of his last movies sucked but he was always fun to watch, and Kersh gave some of us one of the defining movies of our childhood.

I said something similar but got my post removed......sad day.

Ady, this edit is the ultimate tribute to the great man himself. Keep up the hard work.

Even just the color correction is restoring it closer to Kershner's version!

That's so true. Just colour correction alone makes a massive difference, as well as Ady's other enhancements.

One thing that always bugged me about ESB. Growing up in school long before I saw ESB or even knew which movie it happens in, I often heard the line "Luke I am your father." It is probably the most quoted line in movie history. It's probably the most misquoted line in movie history too. The first time I saw ESB I was expecting Darth Vader to say it like that but instead he says "No, IIIII am your father." Adywan, could you insert the word "Luke" in his line right after he says "No"? So instead he says, "No Luke, I am your father."

I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone willing to mess with such an iconic part of the movie......

Why why why would adywan do that?  That's something Lucas would do.

Changing such an iconic line because people quote it wrong is just ... well, blasphemy may be a bit strong ...
