You're welcome... that's really the only thing that strikes me as missing, too.

I'm assuming they're going to have that be explained in part two.  It would fit in with the way information is presented in general--while in the book Hermione pretty much explains almost everything before they even go anywhere, in the movie she's figuring things out as they go and doesn't always have all the answers.  (Quite a reversal from the way the films usually write her.)  It's also possible Peter Pettigrew's demise may have been moved somewhere into part two as well, although I'm not sure exactly where that would fit in.

The only thing that was jarring to me was that the shard of Sirius' mirror, which had been cut from the OotP movie, is re-introduced without any explanation at all.  The role it played in their escape from the Malfoy's house makes this a fairly large oversight; but again I guess they'll say something about it in the second part.

Yeah, I'm assuming the mirror shard will be explained later.  My mom didn't believe me when I reminded her that it wasn't mentioned at all in the film series prior to this movie.

It took you guys mentioning it for me to even remember that I had no idea what was going on because they hadn't mentioned it in the movies. How are they going to explain it now that they're done using it? It's not like they hadn't read the 7th book when they made 6....

Well, in the book it does come up again later--Harry doesn't find out about what it's actually doing until they go to Hogsmeade.  So I suppose that mentioning what it actually is can be put into that same conversation.

It doesn't really matter too much that it will seem like they're pulling it out their @$$, because the way it actually ends up in the book felt like that too.  lol

Well, the mirror shard was introduced in Order of the Phoenix, the fifth book, and not mentioned in Half-Blood Prince, the sixth book.

When they were making the Order of the Phoenix movie, the seventh book was being written, so the producers of the film hadn't read the seventh book at that time.  They thought the mirror was extraneous, so they cut it.

Here's what gets me - they were going to cut Kreacher from OotP, as well, but Rowling told them not to as he would be important in the seventh book.  Why didn't she say the same thing about the mirror?!

Also, why did they never explain why Kreacher became loyal to Harry? Yes, he was his property, but they never got into his change in demeanor after the locket (let alone actually giving it to him).

It looked to me that maybe he was using the locket as some kind of power over Kreature. I would have been very confused had I never read the books.

7.1 is great and all, but 5.1 is plenty enough for me.  Hell, even 2.0 has its place.

All good points, but personally all I care about is that movies are presented in the crystal clarity made possible by DTS, the superior format. DTS FTW!! ;)

I do hope 7.2 ends with a satisfactory wand to wand show down between Harry and Voldemort.  But I have never read the books, so I don't know.    Please don't reveal to much too me(at least put spoiler warnings around it).

If I had to gripe about anything, it would be the pacing. The book cautiously treaded slowly, while the movie carelessly sprints into action.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Somewhat a spoiler:

The book ends with an extremely unsatisfactory wand to wand confrontation between Harry and Voldemort.  Personally I have some level of hope that this will be rectified in the film so that the contest is decided through actual skill and not flimsy coincidence (the trailers make it appear so), but who knows . . .
