I will have to dig out my CQ dvd and watch it again sometime. It's a cool film if you haven't seen it.

Someone has bid on that radio commercial record. If it's someone on here, speak up, so we don't end up in a silly bidding war. ;)

Cool, hope you end up getting it. :)

DSL went bye bye before I could put in a bid. I'll keep an eye on the seller in case another copy pops up.

You could ask him if he's got another one or otherwise ask for the buyer's email (indicating that you're from THX preservation group), you might get lucky and get the buyer to show up here liked I did ;-)

I'm sorry to hear that. :(

Ok, I'd like to start syncing the English subtitle stream of mine to THX 1138 - original cut and I am wondering if you could please upload your captured audio track to the film my way, SilverWook? not necessarily uncompressed, just so I have something to sync to, thanks.

And with that sub-stream as a base, it should hopefully be easier to rework it to fit, erri_wan's "Italian cut", with the help of you Italian guys I hope. :) It could be very difficult but I'm willing to give it a try, if not someone else do. I don't know how different this cut are in the dialogue, besides the additional lines, some lines will of course be impossible to get exactly right due to some things that get lost in translation etc. we'll have to go by the original cut dialogue and script to compare and so forth if there is similar lines in it.

IMO it would also be great if we could have that cut of the film converted to NTSC, I'm not that fond of PAL-speedup. What do you guys say?

Given the horrid upload speeds in my area, it might be easier if I sent you some copies of both versions the old fashioned way.

If someone doesn't volunteer their services pretty soon, somebody is going to have to walk me though all the really technical stuff!

They did a test in Africa and apparently a trained pigeon was a faster of transferring 2GB than fast internet connections. LOL

(they attached a 2GB memory card to the pigeon's claw)

That's a cool story :) Nature beats technology!

Okay, SilverWook, I'll send you a PM soon...

Yeah no problem on my end, if you need any help let me know. Leonardo has to be credited for the subtitles too.

That's great! :) you and Leonardo's help will become unvaluable for this project.

For those who are still curious about this, Silverwook will send his THX files to me, and I'll begin to work on the subs as soon as I get them. Thanks again, SilverWook, and erri_wan for providing this rare gem! :)

It looks like the guy who posted this clip on youtube, owns the same cut as you do, erri_wan. Maybe we should try to contact him? Maybe he have some info regarding this rare cut.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RTRKQkoQHg&feature=related

It's the ending of the film from an Italian version, which to my eyes looks very similar to your alternate opening clip in overall colors and contrast and it have Morris D. Erby titled as "Negro" in the credits, there's also a white cue mark visible at the end of the print.

On one hand I'm very excited and happy there's unique Donald Pleasence footage in this cut but on the other hand it makes it impossible to fully reconstruct this cut with widescreen footage from the Laserdisc.

Nice find. But that one comment about THX being too similar to Logan's Run, which didn't come out until five years later? (Unless they refer to the novel?) My head hurts. ;)

There's a stutter or glitch at the point THX is standing up on the youtube clip and erri_wan's version. Both could be from the same broadcast?

I've been thinking I should ask the seller of that 16mm print if they're going to re-list the auction anytime soon. I didn't want to ask too many questions about it for fear the price would go up again. Pretty sure the asking price went up after I inquired about the Warner logo.

There's also an old betamax tape of THX I'm curious about.

Alas, my old Sony beta doesn't work so good these days.

That's great, I hope he can provide some info.

That Betamax tape is a cool find, SilverWook, never seen that one before, seems to be in pretty good shape.

Won the betamax tape for less than a fiver, and free shipping too. Who the heck the other three bidders were chasing down an ancient pan and scan videotape I'll never know!

It's probably the post Star Wars cut, but the original logo might be intact.

Nice! maybe you could get better results with that one than degrading the DVD footage. Probably the post SW cut, it looks like the approx. running time is 88 min (or 86) on the package, kinda cool to own anyway.

The vintage radio spots for THX were actually posted for download on starwars.com at the time for the blu-ray release, the four spots are in mp3 format but the quality is excellent! :)

They don't make them like they used to... :)

Yes, I have a hi-res scan of it, even though the scene is in the completed film I don't think the drawing shows up though.

Thanks for finding the radio spots, myscamore. Odd they didn't put them on the DVD or Blu. I guess we don't need that record now. ;)

I'm wondering if the tv commercials are out there somewhere?

Yes, it's a little odd, especially when they didn't mind to include other vintage material such as the original theatrical trailer even though it's for "a different film". Anyway, I'm glad we have them and they would be nice to include in our set. :) Oh, that reminds me, we should perhaps save the image of the actual record to include on a potential DVD-menu. ;) EDIT: well, the resolution wasn't that good. ;) TV-spots would also be great but that would be hard to track down, I guess, especially in good quality but you never know...

IIRC, the ebay auction has a bigger image of the record label. Maybe someone could put it over another picture of a 45 with a little photoshopping?

Tv commercials on 16mm were the standard until the 80's, so something could pop up on ebay.

I'm quite excited about this project, I suppose it will have plenty of pictures too then (?).
