Talking about ice-cream men, when I was a boy the ice-cream vans would have purely mechanical musical chimes so you could tell each van by it's unique choice of tune.
Modern technology has moved this into the digital realm so the ice-cream van that circles this area in all weathers (which in Falkirk tends to be all icy rain and wind most of the year) has a series of sampled mechanical chimes which appears to play randomly but I assume can be programmed to some degree but the guy in the van has quite mastered the art).
Yesterday it started playing Jingle Bells and clearly not being quite seasonal yet the man in the van must have pushed some reset button because it jumped half way through to The Yellow Rose Of Texas. It then started playing Happy Birthday To You which was probably on the play list if it was called out to service Birthday parties so he hit the reset button again and he got Jingle Bells again and then had to hit the button again and got The Liberty Bell (made infamous by Monty Python) which he seemed to not like and then got The Yellow Rose Of Texas again.
It's usually really quiet around here so having this bizarre ice-cream van remix session very loud on a Sunday evening was both slightly annoying, strange but also a bit entertaining.
