can't wait for this twist, which i think to many will make a lot sense, to see old and new footage meshed together to bring it all together.

Seeing old and new combined will definitely shed a new perspective on everything, maybe even making some things more understandable than before.

No rush A-Man ;)

Expect me to record the commentary on Friday after work. (I got a job!!! - I moved so I had to find a new job in this city haha)

This project has really grown. Congrats on reaching the homestretch. :)

Thanks Ripplin, there is no freaking way I could've done any of this without you. I'm just waiting to find time to do the commentary, then edit the Trailer for my next edit to be included on the bonus features disc. I'll send it all to you when it's complete. And what's "the homestretch"? Haha

When I first heard about this idea (InfoDroid's Reborn) I was freaking pumped! Then when I heard it got dropped, I installed Vegas and a bunch of ripping programs and got to work on my own take. I encouraged all others to do this too. It's been an amazing experience.

I hope so.

Of course there might be... ;)

And for anyone who missed it...

I'm starting early work on my next fanedit. I'm taking a film from the early 80s, and through the use of new music, audio effects and video effects, I will be creating a fresher look. I am not releasing any more info about this fan film until the Star Wars: Renascent DVD has been shipped - which will include the Trailer to this project on it.

For now, I'm calling it, "Project: Lightshow".

Preliminary work and preparations this month.

Trailer by the end of this month or beginning of the next.

Project to begin production in mid-December.

Expect it to be completed by (or before) Spring of 2011.

Cheers!

Never seen that movie.

I think it'll be neat to hear a less whiny Anakin. Haha. It's little things like that that make me really get into an edit. Having 3PO sound different should be good too. Anakin making him was just pure fanservice, much like Fett looking into the camera in ANH SE. All I got out of it was a chance to exercise my eye rolling abilities.

when making a fan edit, what do you guys reccommend for computer and gigs and hardware and programs?

Author
Time

Wanna know how much I put into this edit? (School provided all the software I needed - hurray for film school!)

An HDTV (for the high quality picture essential to editing)

A couple External Harddrives (a 1TB - $120 (at least) NTFS drive for the main content and backup and a 200GB - $80 (at the time) (at least) FAT32 so that you can take some rendered clips around with you and play them on different formats for different people to get their opinions).

I started with a crappy laptop and a crappy desktop, then added 2GB of ram into the desktop (cost $60), then just sold both for $80 each, and bought a refurbished desktop for $500. (You're looking for at least 4GB RAM - I got 5, atleast a 2.2 Dual-Core Processor - I think mines 2.6) - For sure I would suggest having a second computer for regular computing, in my case I bought the first crappy laptop for 200.

Surround Sound (I prefer analogue to digital) - this cost me about $80.

A damn good video card - this cost me $80.

Also if you plan on doing special effects or graphic design you'll want a high precision mouse (I recommend a blue track mouse) - cost me about $70 for a keyboard/mouse combo.

If you plan on going into editing for a career, I would suggest having a PC Desktop which you can upgrade throughout the years (my last PC, I was the third owner and I used it for 10 years, and now someone else is using it) and for sure have at least a macbook pro (this cost me $1400).

Minus the laptop, and subtracting the cost of the computers I sold, I spent about $1000 dollars on the edit - you've also got to understand that that was over the course of two years, and now that I've invested all of that, I wont need to do it again for a long ass time.

Again, you might already have a lot of that stuff - also one of the reasons I didn't take donations for all that tech equipment was that I needed it for my career too, so I found it unfair to ask money for my personal work especially when no one has even seen my editing abilities yet.

Here's a list of the programs you'll need:

DVDFab - Rips films

GordianKnot - Converts AVI

PGC-Demux - Rips 6 .WAV files for surround audio.

Sony Vegas Pro 8 (for standard DVD) or (for HD) 9 or 10) if you're dealing with a PC.

If you're using a Mac, I suggest Final Cut Pro.

If you want to do special effects, you'll need Adobe After Effects (Available for PC and Mac).

For basic effects and graphic design, I suggest getting Photoshop or if you want a free alternative, go with the GIMP.

For DVD Menu creations, use Sony DVD Architect.

Hope all this helps!

The whiny Anakin i'm sure everyone would wish dissappear. Heck, the only part of that movie that was good were the parts with Obi-Wan, but that's off topic.

I liked the idea of having Anakin create C3PO, yes it raised a lot of questions, but still i thought it was interesting.

The Bobba Fett appearence in ANH i thought was an interesting addition. Was it neccesary, no, but was kind of an eye catcher none the less. i wish we could've seen him more through out the films.

It's still kind of whiny haha, just lower pitched whiny haha - and I caught out a lot of his complaints if I felt they spoiled his destiny or were just too ridiculous.

Don't go saying that to Sky_Jedi... he might kill you.

What kind of effects work have you done on this?

Nothing extravagant. Just the opening and closing credits really, plus a little lighting corrections. I needed the precision mouse for graphic design (including the posters, DVD Covers, closing credits back drops, etc)

^^We think differently on Fett. For me, I wish he wasn't even in ROTJ! Horrible, unnecessary ending to one of the coolest characters in Empire.

I agree whole-heartily!

I still don't. C3PO is fluent in over six million languages. Now, I know as a creator you don't have to speak all those languages yourself in order for them to be incorporated in your droid (I know), but I like to think that you at least have some knowledge of where to acquire them, and how to properly instruct your droid. As an 8-year old... no, that just doesn't fit.

Just so you guys know, a little while after the DVDs are shipped, I'd like to go on BlogTV and have a video chat with people if they have questions, requests or what not about either Renascent 1 or 2 or 3 or even Project: Lightshow.
