I'm just curious, has there been any moment in the film that hasn't been argued about in this thread?

Hmm, that's a good question, I actually had to think a while about it. I don't recall anyone arguing about the part in the movie where Zev Senesca finds Han and Luke in the snow.

Yeah, you're right. What unnecessary alterations can we think of for this shot?

hahaha maybe adding in Yoda's hut some picture of the Jedi Temple in Coruscant... :P

"For over a thousand generations, the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times... before the Empire." - Obi-Wan Kenobi, ANH

"Now the Jedi are all but extinct" - Obi-Wan Kenobi, ANH

"I hate old times" - Batman to John Stewart, A Better World

What more is there really to argue about? My favorite was whether or not the AT-AT's would shoot green lasers or not.

In all seriousness though, i think ESBR is pretty much done. The only thing we have left of it really, is to wait until it releases.

Any word on whether this is going to be done with the AT-AT foot (to keep it in scale)?:

You know...
About that galaxy... (yeah I know)
Maybe....
They were looking at the ENTIRE galaxy?
You have to admit it sure looks like it ;)
That map is based on the assumption that the phenomenon in ESB is the galaxy (its also mentioned in some EU I read that had Vader figuring out that the Rebels left the galaxy). However, that makes hyperspace super fast or they traveled for a really long time to get that far away from the galaxy. If you could go from Tatooine to Alderaan in a few hours (assumption from ANH), then it would still take a couple years to get far enough away to see the entire galaxy. And most of the other jumps we've seen would only last a couple minutes!

This is why I like that Ady is keeping it the same image. Those that want to think that Luke and Leia are looking out on the whole galaxy can think that, and those that want to think that they're looking at the birth of a new star can think that. Leave it to the viewer, don't spell it out. We don't need Ric Olie telling us "There's the Skywalker twins looking over the galaxy!" ;-)

Has it been considered changing Luke's pronunciation of Tatooine at the end?  I'm sure Hamill has said it right at some point after countless interviews through the years.

Someone already asked that a couple hundred pages back.  I stumbled upon it earlier this morning.

Adywan decided that, just like Han and Leia's names have multiple pronunciations, the planet name may be pronounced differently as well.  He said he is leaving it how it is.

And considering that Luke is a native, his pronunciation may actually be correct.

Also that is the first time that it was pronounced on screen.  So everyone ELSE has it wrong.

Mind you, Lando's pronunciation of HAN (rhymes with hand instead of gone) is not good.  And why does it change from Lee-ah in Star Wars to Lay-ah in ESB?  Maybe the director in Star Wars had it different from the writer's original intent?  Oh, wait...

The problem with pointing out anyone's pronunciation is we all have different accents even on this board here. Maybe Lando is from somewhere where they would say "Han" like that. Maybe Han himself pronounced it like that when he was younger and Lando never grew out of it.

I'd say that Tatooine to Alderaan didn't take hours either.  Han is just coming back from the cockpit when he reports to The Gang that they've evaded the dreaded Imperial star fleet.  The Falcon is expected to be "on the other side of the galaxy" when it supposedly jumped to "lightspeed" in ESB.  I'm not sure hyperspace travel time really depends on distance.

What does this have to do with Adywan's edit?  It means the sooner he releases it the sooner we'll have other stuff to talk about!  (Joke!  It was a JOKE!  Take all the time you need, obviously.)

Sure, I'll buy it.  Threepio probably pronounces it correctly too.

Now THAT I've always had a problem with. 3PO gets so excited that he calls "Captain Solo" "Han". He's a droid; not only that, he's a protocol droid, versed in etiquette and protocol. I know nothing else can fit in there, and I've always lived with it, but if there was one piece of dialog I would replace in ESB it would be that.

Maybe him being in pieces overrode his etiquette. But hold on, he calls him "Han" in the asteroid belt too! I was thinking only of "We're trying to save Han from the bounty hunter!" So not that then...

I can't believe I'm joining this argument, but when 3PO says to R2 that they are trying to save Han from the bounty hunter, keep in mind that he was addressing R2.  If ol' goldenrod was talking to a human, he may have used 'Captian Solo' instead.

But it's just a movie, so I'm not gonna sweat it.

I wouldn't call it an argument (yet), its just taken me so long to find something I would change about ESB that I'm going to take it.

You have a good point, but 3PO does say "Excuse me, Han, but where are we going?" in the asteroid field. Maybe Kersh said "You don't have to be so proper all of the time". We'll never know. I don't really have a problem with it, but it could stand discussion.

Maybe 3PO has enough of a personality to purposely drop any respectful titles for Solo when he knows he can get away with it.  We know R2 certainly would!

Actually, I think he says "Excuse me, ma'am, but where are we going?" That's why Leia shrugs.

Ahhhh.  I couldn't for the life of me remember where he called Capt. Solo "Han" in the asteroid field.

The line is "Excuse me, Ma'am, but where are we going?"  And Leia turns to him and shrugs.

So there, I've solve HALF of your problems with Threepio in ESB and Adywan didn't have to do anything!

EDIT: As was mentioned above.  Slow to post.

:-O

Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. I misheard it for years, always wondered why Leia shrugs. That's awesome.

So, 3PO in pieces + talking to R2 = "Han". Sure, I'm OK with that. Just had to talk it out I guess!

Wait, he says "Ma'am"?

And I thought I'd corrected every dialogue misconception I've had about Star Wars by now ...

Ma'am Solo. I love it. :) Funny how some heard 'Han' all these years and I never would've thought of that if someone hadn't mentioned it here. :p

As for the galaxy thing at the end, I just pictured it if there was nothing there but space. Certainly lowers the emotion a bit. On the other hand, without that majestic sight, it also makes it look like the little Falcon flying away is leaving on a lonely mission to find Han. But in the end, whatever Ady decides to do—or not do—it's going to look nice.

Have you guys ever read "Star Wars: The Annotated Screenplays"?  It's an awesome read, and that's where a lot of my dialogue misconceptions got corrected.

The biggest one I had actually came from ANH.  For years and years I thought Obi-Wan said "They're not for sale if you want them" rather than "They're up for sale if you want them."  Totally changes the meaning.

To the extent I ever thought of it (very small) it seems to be a little pay off to the bonding going on in the movie. It starts with Han leaving the Rebellion, but ends with "You have to take care of her now" and 3PO is part of that family that was formed. So in the moment he calls him "Han."

I always thought he said 'man'.

And on the ANH, i've always heard, "They're not for sale if you want them".

Hey, What Plans?, do the Annotated Screenplays cover the whole trilogy? One I'd like to read is 'Unlock 1, 5, 7 and 9. Release [charges, apparently?]' I could swear he really says 'chocks' (as in, something that holds something else in place), which makes sense to me, given the sounds and hissing immediately thereafter, but in ANH:R, Ady put 'charges.' Blueharvest.net's script also says 'charges', but I've never heard it that way. Maybe I should check it out again.

I guess the "excuse me, ma'am" line is the only one people are hearing differently in ESB? I seem to remember reading something else along these lines earlier in the thread, but I could be mistaken.

My only real beef with the last shot is the trajectory of the Falcon - regardless of the galaxy being a "galaxy" or newly-forming star (or whether it is replaced by something completely different, slightly different or altogether pretty much the same thing), just seeing the Falcon veer off to the middle to upper left just looks wrong.  You almost want to yell out "Hey Lando!  The friggin galaxy is THAT way!"

I would suggest changing the shot so instead of the Falcon doing its left turn into deep space, possibly use the shot of the Falcon approaching Yavin IV (or a similar rear end shot) to show it heading towards the galaxy or at least AWAY from the fleet/ the audience (even if "the galaxy" is a forming star, there is nothing saying the Falcon could zip away under it or towards the lower arm).

Mock up will appear within the next few days.

Also, will there be more rebel ships, as well as possibly bigger ones (not Home One size, but maybe something as big or slightly bigger than the frigate but along the lines of what the transports look like)?  I know Ady is reworking that shot (due to the travel paths of multiple ships converging into each other).

Something else too... would there be any alteration to the other ships around the frigate to adjust for consistency in sizes?  It just seems that the rebel blockade runners should be much larger in comparison to the frigate, considering how big that side window is that Luke and Leia look out of (in comparison to the bridge window of the blockade runner).

Ooo, a mock-up? That'll be fun to see. :)

To any of you who have The Making of The Empire Strikes Back, are there any good pictures of the shield generator models from which Ady could work from? I know it's an old issue, but I haven't heard much about it.
