Childhood Misconceptions (aka The Trap Thread, but misconceptions still welcome) — Page 11

Misconception:  The first time I saw Star Wars I thought the star destroyers were the GOOD GUY ships.  So when the Falcon flees Tatooine I thought they were being rescued!

Now, admittedly we came into the theater a few minutes late so the first thing I saw was the blockade runner being sucked into the star destroyer.  Not just in medias res, even MORE in medias res!

I always thought the stormtroopers were robots when I was a kid and that Luke and Han must of taken them apart and removed the mechanical bits to put the suits on.

When Luke fell out the window on Bespin I thought he fell a long way down. I didn't realise there was a walkway just underneath.

Not the best contribution but when I saw this I knew where I had to post it:

Okay, first childhood misconception I can remember about SW:

In the early days before I'd seen the movie or even much in the way of stills from the film, I remember seeing the cover of the original Star Wars novel (which my uncle bought before the film came out)...

Original SW novelization

...and I was absolutely certain that Darth Vader was a giant evil robot, bent on eating and/or crushing those little characters down below him.  Subsequent movie posters and promotional material featuring a giant Vader (or Vader head) towering over characters in the foreground did little to dispel that theory.

I thought the Stormtroopers were robots as well, of course, when I saw pictures of them.  What else would they be?

Comic covers like this couldn't have helped:

And with that, we put this thread to bed.

Goodnight, everyone!
