Nolan's films are much closer to what Batman should be than Burton's were.  They're not perfect, there are things that I'd certainly change, but they're better by a long shot than anything that came before it ...

... with the sole exception of the early-nineties animated series.  Now that was near-perfect Batman right there.  And, by extension, Phantasm.

If you ask me, they should do a proper live-action series, based more directly (but not slavishly) on comic storylines.  Basically make each season a year in the life of Batman.  Season 1 is pretty much Joker-centric, with Harvey Dent in the background.  Season 2 would be all about the fall of Dent and the rise of Two-Face.  Season 3 would see the introduction of Dick Grayson's Robin, et cetera and so on.

Hell, I'd even like to see Robin evolve into Nightwing, and have a Nightwing spin-off.  That could be good.

Note that, while I say the Joker would be the "big bad" of season 1, that doesn't mean that individual episodes wouldn't have their own villains, or that there wouldn't be multi-episode arcs for certain villains (for instance, I'd see the Riddler come into play in the last third of season 1 or the first third of season 2, have him pop up every once in a while for a season or two, then have him start to help Batman in the later seasons).

At least, that's something I think about quite often.  I've thought about writing an outline for the individual seasons just for shits and giggles, but then I realize it would never get made and decide it's pointless.
