I know the Cubs haven't won one in over 100 years.   But your other franchises have been much more successful than the Philadelphia teams.   The Bears in 1985,  the 6 Bulls championships with Jordan, and the White Soxs  won one in 2005, and the Blackhawks just won this year.   Since 1985, that is 9 8 champoinships to Philadelphia's 1.

Fixed.  I'm a Cubs fan.  I'd rather the Yankees win another one than have the White Sox win.

To steal a line from someone I can't remember, if someone tells you they are both a Cubs and White Sox fan, make sure to check for your wallet after you are done talking to them.

wow, I didn't realize Cub fans would hate the White Soxs more than the Yankees.    But, I stand corrected.

I honestly don't get the hostility amongst sports teams for some people. I only cheer for the team who're the closest if it's not my own state.

Maybe I don't really care about it?

So the Giants are playing against the Rangers this World Series? I hope Warb is going for the Rangers since possibly it's closer to him but of course since I live close to San Francisco, it's the Giants for me.

Wouldm't care otherwise and same thing goes for the team closest in proximity.

What an atmosphere it must have been at the stadium last night.  Good stuff.  On to game two.

I don't get this theory.  Warb is in Jersey.  It's nowhere near Texas.  But because it is closer than California, he's supposed to root for the Rangers?

That makes about as much sense as rooting for the Giants because you like their uniforms better.

I root for one baseball team, and one baseball team only: The Phillies.    I would never root for a team anywhere near Dallas.

I don't mind picking a team to casually root for if there isn't a favorite or enemy playing.  In this case I wouldn't mind either team winning so I'm not rooting either way.  But I can't imagine picking one team because they're only 2000 miles away instead of 3000 miles away.

I mind both teams winning, so I hate this World Series.    I hate all teams from the Dallas area.   I also hate the Giants cause 1. they eliminated us 2.  I will not forgive San Francisco of the sin of stealing their team from New York(even though I do hate New York teams,  I can't stand it when teams move and break the hearts of their original fan base.  It should be a crime).

You need to do your homework, Warb,  before you start frothing-off about cities stealing teams.  Toward the end of their time in New York, the Giants were playing in a dilapidated stadium with dismal attendance. Neither New York, nor Brooklyn with the Dodgers, made anything other than token gestures to keep either team.

It would be like hating the Brewers because Milwaukee stole the Pilots, or hating the Rangers because Arlington stole the Senators.
Please.

the city government did nothing because its not easy to afford such things.   But their fans definitely wanted the teams to stay, especially the Brooklyn Dodger fans.   If the millionaire owners don't like the stadium they are playing in, and the city won't build them a new one( cause the city has other more important things to pay for like the cops, fire department, schools, trash pick up, etc ....,)  the owners can build one themselves.   I can not believe you, a baseball purist, would defend such greed.

and, yes I hate the Rangers and the Twins for stealing their teams from Washington as well.

Dude, I've forgiven Mrs. O'Leary's cow.

It's been soooooooo long since many of these things happened.  The current owners of the teams had nothing to do with what happened in the past.

Let it go.

How long do you expect owners to keep a team in a city when they are losing money? And don't say it's the fault of the owners or the city, that's a cop-out and you know it.

Do you really think the Marlins are going to remain in Florida when this is their average crowd?;

Some of those 3,000 nightly fans may be disappointed, but what about the thousands of fans in another city who would love to go to a major league game every night?  Should they be deprived?  Is that the honorable, right, non-sinful thing to do?

The level of fan support for the Marlins and Rays - two teams who have been successful, even making it to the World Series - is despicable.  Those cities don't deserve teams.

are you really going to compare the kind of support the Marlins and Rays get to what the Giants and Dodgers got in New York and Brooklyn?   Its not even close.   As far as I know,  The Polo Grounds and Ebbets Field were always packed.   Both of those teams had a big a loyal following.

I believe the discussion was teams changing cities.

yes, and the Dodgers and Giants both changed cities.

Yes, like 8,000 years ago.  Again, how can you blame the current owners?

Author

I don't, but I still won't forgive their teams.

Author

But what does that mean?  You don't forgive the laundry?  The logo?  The nickname?  Almost everything else is different.

its still the same Franchise.   I will not forgive then and hope they are forever cursed with not winning a championship.

By that logic, you should not root for the Eagles 30 years from now because they once signed Michael Vick.

Author
Time

nope,  but I won't root for them until they get rid of him.

Warb, what's the difference?  It's not the player or the owner, it's the franchise, right?

You're being inconsistent.
