Discussion: Vintage Memories

This was Christmas morning for me (front and centre, the girly stuff was for my sister, and the truck and the dog for my toddler brother) in what I’m thinking must have been '85 or '86.  Man, I don’t know how I lucked out to get a Millennium Falcon AND Castle Greyskull!

I was going through old pictures and came across this and knew I had to share it here!

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"[George Lucas] rebooted the franchise in 1997 without telling anyone." -skyjedi2005

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

Rewrite the Prequels!

I have vague memories of my mom taking me to a yard sale after it had closed to pick up what turned out to be my Falcon. I got it for my fourth birthday. It never had all of its pieces, but I still have what it came with.

Very cool!  Unfortunately, I lost all my keepsakes, along with the bulk of my collection at the time, in the divorce.

But, I have tons of Vintage stuff I have replaced over the years and can take new pictures of them.

I have that last insert thing on my Star Wars Shelf. As for the other rare stuff (Yak Man, Blue Snaggletooth, Vinyl Jawa), I've spent my entire life looking for them.

In that case, places like eBay and RebelScum.com's forums are recommended.  Philip Wise may have his nose buried in Lucasfilm's ass, but there are some great folks in the forums.

When I say "looking", I mean "going to yard sales and flea markets and praying they don't know what they have." ;-)

doubleofive, I'm afraid that ship has sailed.  In the pre-Internet days, things like that happened to me all the time.  But now, nope.

A friend of mine once got a 1959 Gibson Les Paul guitar at a grage sale for $20. I was hardly used.

I hope you meant IT was hardly used.  :)

So not fair! (check the time stamp)

Anyway, I have fond memories of my Hoth Base

and Death Star

Other than those two and a few action figures, I didn't have too many Star Wars toys.

Are those yours, or are the images culled from the net?

From the net.

I don't own any Star Wars stuff anymore other than the movies.  Who knows what my parents did with the toys but I'm sure at some point years ago they asked me what to do with them and I said sell or throw out.

I'm sure this story has broken some hearts here, but I'm just not a collector.  I suppose it's possible my folks may have some old pictures of me with star wars stuff, I might ask them about it next time I see them.

That is actually very commendable.  I sold off all my prequel stuff, and 99% of my modern OT stuff, and am all the better for it.

Nothing really commendable about it, I was just never a collector.  I played with the toys as a kid and that's it.

If you haven't noticed, I'm one of the more casual SW fans on the site.

LOL, yes it was meant to be "IT". A couple bought it for their son when he was young, he never used and it stayed in the attic for many many years. They knew nothing about guitars and just wanted to get rid of it.

He said the pic isn't his.  Although I must admit, I have yet to replace the ones stolen from me.  I had two loose complete ones and a sealed one in the box.  Since I'm no longer a "supercollector", I'll settle for just one that is complete.

Lazy Frink, was lazy.

Or is it:

Reclusive Frink, is reclusive.

I think it's more your elusiveness than anything else, am I wrong?

Oh well, the mystery is what makes Frink all the more awesome!
