I have no problem with this at all.

I would be happier if Lucas didn't write or direct them but let a more competent team put them together.

SW fan JJ Abrams would be ideal....or perhaps Christopher Nolan.

Please no JJ Abrams. He fucked Star Trek already

I didn't like his directing on Star Trek, but I do think he is a great writer. Christopher Nolan is a good director, but I don't know what he could contribute to Star Wars visually, it would take a good cinematographer.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

It's not an error, though.  It's a joke.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

I think you mean Rick McCallum.  You've got your franchises mixed up.

Wait a minute, what is it with Ricks!!!

Have you seen RLM's reviews?  This joke is, I believe, an allusion to one of the reviews.  If you had seen the review, you might find the allusion at least mildly diverting.

Am I the only one who believes this is possibly related to the upcoming Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO? Those type of games either flop, or generate a ridiculous amount of money and a large subscriber base.

And from what I've read (although personally, I have no intention of playing TOR, which ironically in my language means "feces") it's an insanely expensive project. The most expensive game ever, with a budget higher than that of a prequel movie? Surely they must be expecting millions of subscribers and a huge revenue.

And since that thing will probably reach its peak a few years after release, accidentally around 2015-16, why not release a new set of movies then? The release date of Star Wars 3D already coincides with that of TOR.

IMHO, it's all a hugely powered all-round media drive to milk out Star Wars as a franchise.

If a good writer and director were behind it, I'd love to see a new trilogy based on BioWare's Knights of the Old Republic game. Sadly, I can't see this happening...

I bet whatever LucasFilm makes, if anything, it will be complete stupidity. I'm not exited at all.

They come and go every few years. Last I remember was during Revenge, there was a rumor Peter Mayhew was signed on for more movies.

I wouldn't be terribly confident in new movies, but I'd see them sooner than I'd see the others in 3D.

I'd just hope it didn't turn into some sort of EU "Pantheon of non-Sith dark siders trying to destroy the universe."

This gets rumoured every five years or so. Probably not gonna happen any time soon. I am surprised at the willingness everyone has to believe it though.

Besides, Lucas can't afford to restore the OOT and says he can't afford to do the live-action television show right now, he only has so many billions of dollars to go around.

Wait six months, the same story of a "secret new trilogy" will be wheeled out again, and it'll be just as horse-crap as this story always patently was.

If they were to make more SW movies and after the failure of the prequels, they should call the first one 'A NEW HOPE'.........oh, that's already been used.

Ticket buyers could refer to themselves as A NEW DOPE.  At least the rumor was quashed fast this time.

I don't give two shits.

If they were gonna do a sequel trilogy, they should have stuck with their post-ESB plan and given us an Episode VI with a more open ending, then done the sequel trilogy in 1987, 1990, and 1993, followed by a different prequel trilogy in 1997, 2000, and 2003.

I kind of doubt Lucasfilm is going to confirm anything that huge via a simple email reply to a web article.

Not saying the rumors are true, just that they won't let the cat out of the bag that way. And this is the biggest potential cat in the bag they've got left...

Considering Lucas is (sort of) about to start production on a super-ambitious television series that is the equivalent to a one-hour feature-film per week, plus working on the Clone War series, plus supervising the 3D conversion, plus working on Red Tails and possibly batting around Indy V, plus all the other projects and business goings-on he has, there really is no possible way he could start working on a sequel trilogy within the next two or three years. And if its two or three years before he himself could devote any serious work to it, you can be sure that no one except himself would know he was thinking about it--probably not even his family. Something that major wouldn't be disclosed to anyone until it was actual practical to start taking preliminary planning for it.

Also, Lucas is closing in on 70. If he started making plans for a ST today, he would 70 when the first film came out and getting close to 80 by the time it was done. Personally, I'm not even sure he will live that long.

No, Lucas is finished making films. He'll put out more Star Wars shows and some stuff he can sort of watch from a distance. But he would never be able to step back from a ST the way he would with a Clone War television series. It would be a major involvement for him. I personally believe that Lucas' career is basically over and that the 3D re-release is his final farewell before he breaks up Lucasfilm, sells half of his assets to charity, and entrusts his successor(s) to oversee the small remainder of the SW franchise EU for the sake of the fans.

I remember reading Lucas plan right after Jedi came out, and all through middle school I would wait anxiously for the Sequel Trilogy.  Back then without the internet, you just kinda hoped when the spring rolled around for that first TV spot of a Star Wars movie.  By 1987, I was in 8th grade, and finally gave up hope for the ST.

I remember when the Kenner toys stopped in 1985 and focused on the Droids and Ewoks cartoons.  I knew then it was over, and when the Kenner line finally petered out and magazines like Starlog stopped any rumblings, that was it.  I still wish that WAS it and the PT didn't happen, but oh well.  Want in one hand, shit in the other.

What is there against Rick McCallum? Does he have any creative input at all? Isn't he a logistics man who does Lucas's bidding? I know his voice is grating, but seriously, how does he even deserve blame?

It's possible that during the current financial situation Lucas may dump the live action show and make three more films instead (or delay the series and make films hoping for the economy to pick up again).

Television Sci-Fi shows haven't been doing too well recently.

In modern terms the films have been relatively cheap to make and the brand will turn a shilling both in theatres and home cinemas without having to worry about keeping an eye on the out dated ratings system.

But yeah it looks like another false rumour.

I think people blame him for inaction. But really, his hands were tied and he did the best he could under the circumstances, I think he is a good producer and promoter and did what Lucas hired him to do pretty damn well. Really damn well, actually.
