So he likes the Han Solo books and the radio drama better than the first film.  Why does that have to mean he doesn't like the film?

He has no interest in the movie, because the story is better served in the audio drama (in his opinion), therefore he no longer has interest in the film version of the story.

That doesn't mean he doesn't like the movie.

Yes, you are being very pedantic, and you keep acting as if his opinion is empirically wrong.  That bothers me.

I don't know how to put all this so it makes sense to you.  The 1977 film got me here.  It was my be all, end all for decades.  I think it's a fantastic film.  I own it, I know it backwards & forwards, it's the only one of the six I have any interest in. I will be first in line to purchase future versions of it, provided they are 1977 theatrical.

That said;  I now prefer to read the Daley novels or listen to NPR over the 1977 film.  I just don't feel the magic I did for so many years.  All that came after it (from Lucas) has tainted it for me. Plus, I want more than that one story.  Lucas never did that.  Brian Daley did.  Daley even gave me more depth in Star Wars just by writing the NPR version. He gave me hours more of the story I love.

So that I'm clear on this -  when I say prefer, I mean just that - prefer - not in place of forever because the other stuff is shit.  I do not mean Star Wars77  is bad, the story is no good, the OOT isn't worth saving, etc, etc.

Now, if you'll excuse me, the Giants are playing in a few hours.  I have to get home, change into my comfortable clothes, pour a glass of wine and relax (as best I can) to some championship baseball.

I don't think his opinion is empirically wrong.   It is just that in our conversation he seemed to contradict himself.  

Anchorhead,  if you don't think ESB and ROTJ.  That ok.  Its your opinion and you are entitled too.   Same if you don't like the first movie. 

I agree to disagree.

I just find it so weird that this conversation is taking place at all.  I know Warb never ventures into Star Wars-related threads anymore, but I thought it was pretty well-established where Anchorhead stood.  And, honestly, as long as I've seen Anchorhead around here, I've never seen anyone take him to task for just liking the first movie.  In fact, I've always thought his view was a refreshing deviation.

1: I honestly did not know he thought that way

2: I wasn't trying to take him to task.  His stance seemed very strange to me and got me curious.  As our conservation progressed, it seemed like he was contradicting himself.   I got confused.   I agree I probably went too far.   I'm sorry.
