Carrie Fisher substance thread : This Week : ESB Cocaine

"This Week" implies we can look forward to more in future weeks? ;-)

""It's always been my responsibility," she said. "If it was Hollywood (to blame), then we'd all be dope addicts.""
-Good call on her part to take the blame for herself. I hate celebs who blame society. Also, "we"? Who ELSE was on coke?

In the late '70s-early '80s?  The better question is, who wasn't on coke?

They thought coke was about as addictive as peanut butter back then. How dark the 70s were.

Peanut butter is VERY addictive! Did you ever try to eat just ONE Reeses PB cup in a 2-pack?! ;-)

But seriously, I would have been quite happy not knowing that she (and whoever else) was doing coke on the ESB set... :-/

Well, this is what the Alan Arnold book hinted at back in the day. Didn't realize it until a few years ago, but 30 years of hindsight makes it easy to read between the lines.

People had pretty destructive ways of dealing with fame and stress back then. I don't think the real world problems of Carrie should take anything away from Princess Leia. I didn't appreciate what a role model the Senator from Alderaan really was until that Star Wars edition of "Deal or No Deal" aired.

Where were you in '77?

I don't think modern celebs do coke anymore because it's so cheap the plebs are doing it now.

Interesting article - makes me wonder how much of her on-screen acting is drugs enhanced.

I also remember an interview where the older Carrie was asked if she had any relationships whilst filming the Star Wars movies and her reply was something like "I had plenty to choose from" - pretty loaded depending what you read into it.

So she needed to be on drugs to make it through the good star wars movies.

I wonder what people on the prequels had to be on to survive those horrible movies where most of it was made in post and the actor is standing in front of a green background, lol.

I mean i would not blame  Hayden if he got baked every day before arriving on set just to avoid falling asleep from boredom, Lucash goes faster and more intense when 90% of the movie is not even in existence when they shoot the video.

It would also explain a lot if everyone from Christopher Lee, Liam Neeson and terence stamp for showing up on valium.  I also bet Portman and Mcgregor were stoned all the time.

The truth is probably no one on the set of three prequels was on drugs, but it sure makes the movies far more interesting to look for excuses for the horribleness.

Carrie's cocaine diet was never a secret look how much weight she gained when she got off the stuff.  The Same thing happened to Kirstie Alley.  Look at her in star trek II versus now when she is clean of drugs.

Heh, it wouldn't surprise me if Ewan and Hayden snuck off between takes to share a spliff.
