Star Wars DVD Covers — Page 165

On ROTS, I love the blue in the vader background, but I dont think it works for the characters in the foreground.  So, I think you could keep the blue palate, but if you could adjust the character coloring you would be golden.

cool covers :)

ABC, you or anyone else for that matter, wouldn't happen to have a decent sized picture of this. I just want the image on the lunchbox, preferably in colour.

Though if not, I could probably work with it. It is the image I originally wanted for the back of my Star Wars ANH cover.

P.S. if it is a picture of the lunchbox, that will work too.

Man, I am way late to this thread - but if you still want this in high-res, I may still have it on my work machine.  I took my lunchbox to work and scanned it a few years ago for someone here.  I forgot what they needed it for, or who it was, for that matter.

Anyway, if I can remember tomorrow, I'll look for the scans.

Give it a shot with the Struzan art and see how that works, if it does at all.

I'd also consider switching up the logo placement a bit, as they did on the OT covers.

Also, is it just me, or is the ROTS spine logo too high up?

Yea, the logo was low. Originally I made a variant of the long RotJ logo before I remembered that there was an official RotS one.

Anyway, let's see, toyed with these some more (incoming picture spam, but then again isn't this thread about looking at all the pretty pictures?)

First I touched up my previous versions, toyed with the color some, corrected the spine logo, and tried the usual photoshop tricks to try to get more of a drawn look.

Second, I have them with the Struzan poster art. the tricky part was that these pictures were designed with black space around them, and with the idea of putting the logos at the bottom, so trying to make them fit with the OT designs is a bit tricky, at least requiring blowing them up some.

Third, I tried playing with the colors some,  again noticing that the OT covers had a lot of blue in them, I tried making them a bit more blue to match, don't think it works too well, though.

And here's a quick look at how all 6 would look together.

These are still just mockups,  as I was dumb and didn't set the sizes up properly when I started, I have to re-make whichever version I decide to go with for the final,  but then that'll let me take some more time on it.

Love these and would be proud to use them.

Isn't that the image from the back of the Faces DVDs? Probably not, but I *know* I've seen it used somewhere here...

Can you ask him to make "flipped" versions so that the backs can become the fronts and vice versa?  All that would be involved is 180* image rotation but leaving the spine title oriented as it is now.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Exactly!  I didn't think it was that easy because of the clear areas under the titles - they wouldn't line up when you flipped the image around.

Edit - never mind, I see what you did - just a simple rectangle cut-out.  It works, but it's not perfect.

Here's something I've been making Puggo's Super8. Does anyone know what font was used for credits in SW posters (Style A, C, half sheet...)? msycamore? :P And if anyone has a high res version of the double bill, let me know.

Edit: actually I think I'm going to use UK quad for SW, too, I completely forgot I had those LOL. I'm not a fan of the half sheet.

The font is SerifGothic, but unfortunately it doesn't look exactly the same anymore, the old alternative versions of some letters didn't make it when they digitized it. Below is a chart of all the different versions of the letters.

The new digital version doesn't include any alternatives, the tilted e for example. The GOUT DVD-covers used the new version, IMO some of the old alternatives looked much better.

I thought the double bill was included in the package I sent you? I am almost sure I have it, I'll take a look. Nice covers BTW.

EDIT: I actually like your first one better as it uses Tom Jung's classic artwork for both films, so don't trash it yet. ;)

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

WOW! These look nice.

Can you please upload individual full-sized version images of the covers. Preferably TPM, AOTC, and ROTS in the blue background to blend with the original trilogy covers.

Love that Star Tours cover. Need to track down that archival DVD to go with my burned copy of the Martin Tribute

Alright, I've been getting many requests for a re-up of my 1990's VHS-style covers.  I've made some subtle changes since the last upload - here are the new ones (quality on the samples isn't as good as last time because I resized them after upload to Imgur instead of beforehand):

And, because I've also gotten complaints that the black text on the Star Wars cover is hard to read (though it's faithful to the original), I made a version that includes white text instead:

Personally, I think that's harder to read than the black one, but I figured I'd give people the option.  It's not like these are 100% faithful to the originals anyway (due to the difficulty in finding the actual images used on the backs of the originals).

All 4 are included in the download, which is here.

I've also been toying with the idea of doing similar covers for the prequels, but ... well ... I hate the prequels, so the task is proving challenging at best - I'm just not motivated to do it, really.  But if anyone can give me a good synopsis to use for the back of them (specifically TPM), that would help tremendously.  Note that my TPM cover would be intended for use with Adywan's theatrical DVD, and as such would use its runtime instead of the DVD's.  But other than that, there won't be any special features listing or anything, so if you don't mind a small runtime discrepancy (not even sure what the runtime difference would be between the theatrical and DVD cuts of TPM), it could easily be used for the official DVD as well.  Or both.

I really like these and would love to use them, but the download link is dead now. ChainsawAsh, could you reupload them? (Or perhaps if someone else has them, could you send them to me?)

I'll be re-upping them early next week, when I again have access to that hard drive.
