With all due respect, I wasn't aware that I had to provide credentials.  I thought that a desire to preserve the OUT would be enough.  Actually, Puggo, you're one person I would like to talk to in particular.

First, I've never been to Star Tours, would love to go someday, and if I went would be more than thrilled to meet anyone and everyone from this forum or elsewhere, regardless of credentials.

But go back and look at your original post, particularly the title.  "SERIOUS preservationists ONLY".  Regardless of what you intended, the content made it sound like you were convening a special summit meeting of the world's top experts for a big project.  It set a very particular tone.  Actually, I was intrigued.  Does he have a 70mm print?  Is he an LFL insider scuttling a hard drive out of Skywalker Ranch?  Is he a 12-year-old kid wanting to get Adywan's autograph?  Is this a sting? Should I give this guy my phone number?

It would be as if some random person (say, "John Smith") went on a rock guitar forum, and posted "GRAMMY WINNING guitarists ONLY", and proposed that the biggest superstars meet with him at the Tapas bar.  The first things anyone on there is going to say is "why are we meeting?" and "who is John Smith?"

Just about everyone on this forum is serious about preserving the original trilogy.  Perhaps if you had just said "hey, I'll be at Star Tours next week and would love to meet up with some of you guys in person... PM me and I'll send you my cell number"... it might have sounded a little less, er, grandiose?

See, this is what I hate about the internet.  Inevitably someone will get all bent out of shape because someone else didn't word something the way he would.  Not that it's wrong, or that he was rude or abusive, but it's just not the way HE would say it.  I said it the way I said it and it did get your attention so it was at least partially successful!  LOL!

Besides, you have no idea what kind of project I may be involved in and I won't discuss it on public internet forums for precicely this kind of absurdist comedy act that results when every word you type goes under the microscope, plus I have people reading my posts from five years ago (!), and for other reasons you mentioned.  This all because people weren't comfortable with "the way I worded my post."  Shit!  Imagine I said something of any substance!  Imagine the uproar then!  Serious business is done face to face, not on public internet forums.  And the first time I meet anyone I'm not giving any details.  I deal with people I trust and I can't trust anyone who I haven't met face-to-face.

"Grammy winning guitarists" is not a good analogy.  A grammy is a credential and an achievement, I didn't ask for any credential but your intent (serious).

I want to preface the next statement thus: don't get me wrong, looking at the work that has been done by people on this board, I have been often not just impressed but literally floored by the results.  Having said that, I think we all agree that up until now we were all working with material with quite limited potential (which often makes the results just that much more impressive in the sense of seeming impossible, but still doesn't improve our overall situation).  But in the grand scheme of OUT preservation, we've basically got the GOUT and attempts to improve on it or it's source, and reverse-engineered reconstructions of the OUT using the 2004 cut HD broadcast and elements of said GOUT or it's source.  I don't consider those to be the actual OUT, but a simulation or approximation of the actual OUT.  So perhaps it's time for some grandiosity, as long as it's productive.

Bottom line: after many years of helplessly watching Lucas shit all over his own legacy, and admiring the work I've seen here, I have something to offer.  I'll share those details with those that I trust and take into confidence and work with at a later date.  I had literally a few minutes to make that post and I didn't put the amount of thought into it that it appears many here did.  It got your attention, so let's be adults about the fact that such communications were never meant to be obsessed over and dissected ad-nauseum for all eternity the way the internet tempts so many to.  Let's move on.

The fallout over my imperfectly-worded post just further convinces me that it's a bad idea to discuss anything of substance on this or any public internet forum.  If you are serious about SW OUT preservation and can spare a few minutes then you can choose to meet me sometime so you can judge for yourself if I'm a kook or not.  Considering I'll never suggest a meeting that's not in a safe public space, what have you got to lose but a few minutes?  To anyone who isn't satisfied with this, then fine forget about it but be mature enough to just walk away and leave the thread to people who are actually interested in the topic and not your "clever" remarks.  Fair enough?
