Thing with the DVD's is...

ANH..Greedo shoots first...Crap!!!

ESB...Bloody new Palps scene and then the whole Vaders Shuttle scene...And Fetts shitty voice....Crap!!!

ROTJ...Well Hayden (which I don't mind so much, but only if we watch them 1 - 6, otherwise it makes no bloody sense)....

And the GOUT dvd's just look a little shitty on a big TV...

I want her to see the films in the best possible way she can...It's important to me...haha!!!

Have you considered Harmy?  I haven't watched them yet myself, but I dig the idea of them...  Which reminds me... watch Harmy's DSEs.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"[George Lucas] rebooted the franchise in 1997 without telling anyone." -skyjedi2005

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

Rewrite the Prequels!

Star Wars, Empire, Jedi, Ep 1, Ep 2, Ep 3.

The Prequels spoil the OT in every way. Plot points, characters, reveals, likeablility. I challenge anyone to believe Vader is as awesome as he is if they watch the PT first. They also ruin Jabba and the Emperor, so watching them before ROTJ is just as bad.

I like how you refer to the originals by name and the prequels by number. I try to do that, but it always ends up coming out "Star Wars, the first one, the first one released."

I love his PDSE of ROTJ.  I haven't watched his theatrical reconstruction.

And I have to say I'm against introducing someone with fanedits instead of the actual movies.  Surely your DVDs can't be that bad.

Unless you're proposing that he use the GOUT, I can't say I agree. IMO, the Special Editions are nothing more or less than officially licensed "fanedits" of the "actual movies." Sadly, they are far lower quality fanedits than Adywan is producing.

If I were to watch all six movies right now, this is how I would do it:

1 - Star Wars - A New Hope Revisited by Adywan
2 - The Empire Strikes Back - Color Corrected AVCHD SE by Adywan
3 - The Phantom Menace - Shadow of the Sith by L8wrtr
4 - Attack of the Clones - Twilight of the Republic by JasonN
5 - Revenge of the Sith - The Black Knight Rises by JasonN
6 - Return of the Jedi - Partially Despecialized AVCHD by Harmy

As with any film or book series ...

Watch them in the order they were made/released!

And, since she's never seen them before - DO NOT SHOW HER REVISITED, OR THE 1997/2004 SPECIAL EDITIONS!  Please show her the 1977, 1980, and 1983 theatrical cuts, like it's meant to be.  Use the GOUT for IV, Adywan's restored ESB theatrical for V, and the GOUT again for VI.

Or you could wait for Harmy's ROTJ theatrical restoration to be done for VIANH, on the other hand, would have to wait until after Ady finishes ESB:R, as he's said he'll do an ANH theatrical restoration for that one once he's done with ESB.

Then, when you get to the prequels, show her Adywan's restored theatrical cut of TPM, then the DVDs of II and III.

And if you do show her Revisited, please make it the Purist version.

In terms of the whole series watching ANH:R makes sense because it connects more with the PT.

In terms of introducing Star Wars as a film in it's own right the best OUT you can get your hands on is the obvious choice.

I can certainly understand the advice of only showing the theatrical versions of the OT.  But I would never show the theatrical or DVD versions of the PT.

That's the thing...the only 77 version I have is the dvd release...and let's be honest...the quality isn't that good.

It's gonna have to be Adys ANH:R...face it, she's not really going to know the difference between that and the 77 release..haha...apart from Ady's looks much crisper...

As for ESB, well I think that's been sorted (Thanks man)

Oh well, I'll let you know what she thinks of her very first Star Wars experience tomorrow....she better bloody like it.....:)

I'd show the theatrical cut of TPM over the DVD cut any day.

It's not intentional. That's what I grew up calling the OT, when they had no numbers in the titles,  and when the PT came out, the numbers were first in the title, so that's how it seemed easiest to abbreviate.

I think it's pretty sad that people rather watch crappy versions just because they're in better image quality. I guess that explains the present Hollywood, then. I mean, people watched movies on VHS for 20 years!

Why not let her choose.  She has to be partly aware of the plot lines, give her the prevailing advised options and see what she decides.

Have you seen DarkJedi's corrected version of the GOUT?  It looks pretty darn good, even on my 58" screen.  WAY, WAY better than the released DVDs.

Yeah, I'll second that.  If you don't mind SD and want to stick to theatrical, go with dark_jedi's versions of the OT.
