Add that to Vader in his suit killing the younglings and you have a much more believable turn.

How would you achieve this without new Vader suit footage?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I don't think it would work even if somehow Bob was able to pull it off. After the Obi Wan/Anakin fight the rest of the film is a sombre montage, with a couple of small dialogue scenes mixed in - a Younglings massacre wouldn't fit tonally; plus, it makes no sense anyway: the Jedi are defeated, Palpatine is officially Emperor, why does Palpatine wait so long to attack the Temple?

I don't see what's wrong with the Clonetroopers attacking the Temple during the Order 66 portion of the film - after all, Clonetroopers are shown killing the Jedi, why not show them killing Younglings at the same time?

Me...?

I couldn't.

If I were seriously going to attempt this I'd have to have access to a Vader suit and a well built man...**Is it just me or is it getting hot in here?**.

How about we hear about younglings being killed but not actually see it. I dont think it was actually needed in the film, when Bail Organa comes to the temple and the young Jedi is killed in front of him, then i think thats enough to show that all ages of jedi were killed.

Exactly, and that's what I did in my edit of Sith: you show Order 66, then at the end of the montage show Bail flying to the Jedi Temple, it's on fire, and that kid gets killed by Clonetroopers. That's all you need to show.

Hey guys.  Long time reader, rare/occasional poster, so forgive me for trying to cover my opinions on the last 20 pages in this post:

Overall, I think Bob has excellent vision for what this movie should've been and still could be.  For the most part, I agree with his decision making.(Do we refer to Bob in the 2nd or 3rd person here?  Cause I'm kind of talking to everyone, but Bob mostly)

Order 66 - IMO, the only words Palps needs to say are, "Commander, execute order 66."  I don't see Palpatine knowing(or caring) about a clone's name, I don't see the "The time has come"(like Cody and Palp have been planning this together or something?), and I don't see a need to explain what order 66 is(kill the jedi).  A simple, "Commander, execute order 66" not only shows Palp's long, long-term plan coming to fruition, it shows that the order is  a manchurian-candidate type subconscious order, not something they've sat down and planned together, and it also makes the scene the opposite of one of Lucas's main ways of ruining things - overexplaining things that are best left unsaid.  Try it out in your head - "Commander, execute order 66."  Nothing else.

Lightsaber switch - again, less is more, do the opposite of what Lucas would do - the glowing red drawer on the desk is plenty.  Also, I see no reason to make any fuss out of the switch.  Besides the fact that there's no reason to throw out a perfectly good lightsaber, Vader kept the old one simply because he remains conflicted - throught the trilogies, how many people still "felt some good in him?"  The old saber being with him symbolizes that, and is surely what Obi would want to take from the duel, either as a memento of his lost friend, or with plans to give it to his son someday.

The killing of the younglings - the way I think of this scene is that it is Palpatine putting Anakin/Vader immediately into a situation from which there is absolutely no turning back.  Even Mace's death could've been whitewashed somehow, but slaughtering the kids?  No way, Anakin's now on the dark side for good.  A VERY necessary scene, as is.  If anything, take that closeup of the tear running down his cheek on Mustafar, and put it this scene instead.  But the scene has to stay, IMO.

Overall, I'm really enjoying what's been done so far, but there are too many spoilers!  Less youtube updates, I feel like I'll have seen the whole thing before it's done.  Less updates, more suspense.  IMO.

The clips are there to help with development.

Some editors like to just do what they do and release it to an unsuspecting public, others like to put ideas up there and get feedback to fine tune their ideas and get new suggestions.

Some of what Bob is doing comes straight from that feedback but if you want to avoid spoilers for the final product...

My love of all things Star Wars, that's "who."  If there's an update, I have to watch it.   It's an addiction.

Thanks for the well thought out post, thenihilest. Means alot to me when people who dont post very often (as you stated) take the time to comment on the work I'm doing.

The last 3 days have been a non stop work fest, so atm I'm alittle behind on reading all the ideas over the last 2 pages. I'm going to be getting caught up on things over the next few days, while I'm still working on some special FX shots that are already in the works.

About the Youtube posts. Yeah I do post alot of the work thats been done. In alot of ways it's helped a ton with people providing feedback, or catching mistakes that otherwise would go unnoticed by me. So in a way, it's a necessary evil of the project. But dont worry, there are still alot more things that nobody has seen 8).

Ill be in touch with the thread alittle more tomorrow. After I get some rest. I'm rolling on 3 hours of sleep over the last 2 days atm.

Thanks again to everyone who's showing interest in my favorite hobby. Always cool to read the feedback. See you all soon.

By way of further explanation of my alternate take Anakin's fall look at Howard Hughes.

A great pilot, an inventor, a perfectionist, was orphaned at an early age, suffered from terrible pain because of multiple crashes and mental disorders (inventing different identities so that he could for brief periods live different lives).

Even when addicted to pain killers and becoming more and more paranoid he kept a strong grip on his Empire (the only slip up being when he came under the sway of some Mormons who used his infirmity to line their pockets).

When he died and his body was finally seen he was covered in scars, his body was horribly mutilated and abused and this was the head of a great industrial Empire.

Very Vader.

Looking forward to all these changes coming....if only Bob was good with 3d and do this?

Excuse my amateur talents, was experimenting with 3d yoda in OT and vice versa. Shame someone with excellent 3d experience couldnt redo all of Yoda's footage, that would make any fan edit totally epic!

Regarding the scene of Anakin marchin to the Jedi place, I've just found out how fuckin epic it'd be if for once in the saga, the crescendo part of the Imperial march was used (the part which goes from 1:30 till 1:47). I think it can be arranged to fit the stairs-feet-roof-feet cut that scene has. And of course, the climax of that scene would be Anakin (preferently Vader suited up) with the epic imperial march you can hear from 1:47, turning on his sabre...

I'd trie some mock up, but I suck in after effects...

Here's the mock-up of the suited Vader entering the temple I was looking for.

Perhaps something could be done, but I really doubt it without some new footage.

Bob have you considered adding music that doesn't actually come from SW saga? I say this because there's a song composed by John Williams, that actually reminds a militarized version of Across the Stars... it's called "The turbulent years"...

I insist on the crescendo part of the imperial march on the massacre scene

The temple seige scene is still being looked at. I'm sure I can settle on something good.

I'm now back to the Mace Palpatine duel. Just a quick sceen shot of some of the work. Amazing how much some color change and the yellow eyes make him look like he did in ROTJ. Still have to add in the wrinkles to alot of the shots for when the lights flicker on. It's getting there tho.

Forgot to mention, the hands are not done yet. I've been focusing so much on the face first.

Bob:

First-time poster. I'm a fourteen-year-old hardcore OT fan, and I've been watching all of the YouTube clips and must say, I'm spectacularly impressed.

I only have a couple of things I want to ask you about. First, Mace's lightsaber. Doesn't it just look so much cooler as purple?

Second, I think you should keep Grievous' multi-colored lightsabers. I think the whole stealing-lightsabers-from-people-he-killed story actually works well for the movie.

Overall, though, the edit is awesome. I in particular like the change to a night sot for Grievous' arrival on Utapau and the "flickering lights" sequence in the Plaps/Mace duel. Keep up the awesome work, and PLEASE release this movie to the public soon!

No, we'll serve anyone, meaning anyone, and to anyone—at all!!!

Mace shouldn't have a purple lightsaber. He just shouldn't.

And, yes, when I was 14 - I thought it looked cool. Now I just don't like it. Maybe you will change your mind someday.

The face change also reminds me of this other scary moment (I wonder how Lynch would have done Palpatine?).

Fire Walk With Me

Do we actually see Palpatine's prune face teeth (because these yellow gnashers are pretty scary with the pale face)?

Clearly, a personal preference for one lightsaber color over another is a mark of relative maturity...
