The New York Times ran a piece on it today in their Arts section. I had this to say in the comments section;

Interestingly enough, one of their other Star Wars articles (Blu-ray releases) had a fair amount of detractors with regard to the SEs.

I saw that our man KenKraly came to the rescue touting the SEs and how we shouldn't complain, since they're the preferred versions. He did throw us a bone, however, saying the originals should be preserved.
