It would make sense to be building the DS near a rich natural resource, which Endor could well be, so that sounds like a good idea.
That would also add some motivation as to why the Ewoks would be fighting/sniping the Imperials (not to mention it would add a layer of social commentary to a fairly straight-forward film).
Maybe scenes from EMERALD FOREST could be used?
